My dog accidentally ate Eliquis, a blood thinner. Is it dangerous?

Apixaban increases the risk of hemorrhage and can cause serious, potentially fatal, bleeding. In scientific tests they gave dogs up to 1500mg/kg without ill effect other than bleeding. It is unlikely that Coohie will have any untoward effect with this medication provided he will not have surgery within the next 7d nor any injuries. Should he need blood taken at the vet during this time please postpone the appointment. Otherwise you should not have to worry.

While I would certainly recommend calling aspca poison control, I do not believe that 5mg of warfarin exceeds the threshold for a toxic dose based on a 6 kilogram body weight. According to the academy of vet pharmacists, a 5 mg per kg dose is the threshold meaning that about 30 mg is needed to show clinical signs in most cases. However every patient is different and if your dog has any other issues or takes other meds this could be affected. Hope this helps.

He should be fine. You may see some vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy. He would need to ingest 8 of the pills for there to be a risk of toxicity. If necessary, withhold food for 24 hours, allowing small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until any symptoms of GI upset resolve. Transition slowly to his regular diet afterwards. If symptoms persist or worsen, have him examined by your veterinarian.

As long as the smaller dog doesn't have any pre-existing liver or kidney issues, its unlikely that this will be a problem. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite, or lethargy; if you notice any of these symptoms, take him to the vet for an exam and bloodwork. While Dexilant isn't a drug regularly used in veterinary medicine, I found information that states "According to toxicity studies there was no effect from the drug on dogs when given at a dose of 5mg per kilogram (2.2 pounds) of body weight for several days in a row." With his weight of 85 pounds, there will be no issues. Just do not give him anymore. I hope this helps!
