Help! My 4-month-old pit bull ate a human Eliquis pill. Is it safe?

Dogs tend to tolerate opioids fairly well and this probably wasn’t a dose that is high enough to cause concern. If Zeus ate the tablet in the last hour I’d recommend seeing an emergency vet for them to induce vomiting and hopefully recover part of the tablet. If it has been longer than that you could monitor at home, but if you notice that Zeus is becoming sedate to the point that you cannot get him to stand up you should head to a vet. If the tablet had any other medications (like acetominophen) then there might be other concerns - repost your question and specify how much.

This is actually a quite safe dose and should not cause severe side effects as long as Jet is not taking any other medication and is healthy otherwise. It can cause lower blood pressure and increased urination. I would monitor him for the next 12-24 hours and if you notice any abnormal sign like no urination, increased thirst, vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy (and any other sign), I would recommend an immediate check up.

Oh my goodness, I hope at 5 months old Zia is not already 100 pounds! That would very overweight even for a Mastiff. Abilify can cause low blood pressure, sleepiness, and depression or lethargy - but it has not been shown to be a highly toxic drug, thankfully. If the ingestion occurred right now you can try to induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide. The dose is 1cc per pound of body weight. If the ingestion happened several hours ago, there is likely to be no benefit in inducing vomiting - rather, a veterinarian would only be able to manage any symptoms that were noted. If all seems normal, there may not be any immediate concern - but if you are seeing sleepiness, lethargy, depression, or pale gums, you need to seek veterinary attention immediately.

While I would certainly recommend calling aspca poison control, I do not believe that 5mg of warfarin exceeds the threshold for a toxic dose based on a 6 kilogram body weight. According to the academy of vet pharmacists, a 5 mg per kg dose is the threshold meaning that about 30 mg is needed to show clinical signs in most cases. However every patient is different and if your dog has any other issues or takes other meds this could be affected. Hope this helps.

Gabapentin commonly causes signs such as lethargy and difficulty moving/disorientation. Peanut may need supportive care such as fluids, administered by a veterinarian if he develops these signs. In the meantime, I recommend keeping a very close eye on him, and having him seen by a vet right away if he develops the signs above. I hope all is well!
