Dog ate dryer sheet, vomited. What signs mean more vet care is needed?

Hello. If Chip is not ill or acting sick, then he took care of the problem on his own. If he is acting sick, then do not feed him, supply water only if he does not vomit & get him to the vet as soon as you can. But if he seems fine, he will most likely be OK. It would be fine to give him a small amount of food and monitor. If he eats and does not have any vomiting, then you can resume normal feedings tomorrow. If he has any vomiting and diarrhea, then he should be examined and treated by your vet.

The dryer sheet doesn't have any toxins that could hurt your dog and if only a small piece is missing, this should pass through his intestinal tract without trouble. Keep an eye out for drooling, vomiting, loss of appetite, or general lethargy. If anything like this happens, get him in to see your vet right away.

If Vito does not pass it in the next 8 hours a check up would ideally needed, as this could have caused an obstruction. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up earlier than 8 hours if you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If she ate a significant amount of her bedding, it's definitely possible that she could have an intestinal obstruction. Normally, signs of an obstruction would include vomiting, lethargy, not eating, and not having bowel movements. It sounds like your pup is eating normally and having bowel movements regularly. Vomiting once or twice is not necessarily a concern is she is still eating find and acting normal - but if she has repeated episodes of vomiting, stops having bowel movements, or begins acting lethargic then I would recommend having her seen by a vet right away.

The concern with these concentrated detergent products (i.e. pods) is not only the possibility of vomiting (which you've already seen) but also the foam that they can potentially create and the risk of aspiration, leading to pneumonia. If you can get Gypsy in to an emergency vet tonight I would recommend it, as an injection of anti-nausea medication (Cerenia) in addition to some GI protectants (famodtidine/Pepcid) may help to really decrease the amount of resulting GI distress you see from this. Also, she could very well experience oral ulcerations from the soap, so monitor for these as well.

Oh no, that was naughty of Phoebe to eat the pad! I do not recommend inducing her to vomit at home with peroxide (H2O2). The reason is that H2O2 can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Also, we have no way of knowing whether the dog is debilitated and has a greater chance of aspirating. The best thing to do is have her seen by an ER vet now to safely induce vomiting with a shot to get the pad out of her to prevent an obstruction. Otherwise, you can watch her for signs of obstruction with include vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea, and/or constipation. If you see any of those signs, she will need to see a vet immediately.
