My puppy ate bedding, passing it, but keeps throwing up. What to do?

My puppy ate some of her bedding I know this because she is passing it when she goes to the bathroom however she threw up twice while eating

If she ate a significant amount of her bedding, it's definitely possible that she could have an intestinal obstruction. Normally, signs of an obstruction would include vomiting, lethargy, not eating, and not having bowel movements.

It sounds like your pup is eating normally and having bowel movements regularly. Vomiting once or twice is not necessarily a concern is she is still eating find and acting normal - but if she has repeated episodes of vomiting, stops having bowel movements, or begins acting lethargic then I would recommend having her seen by a vet right away.

Vomiting can have many different underlying causes, but since Lexi ate some of her bed I would be concerned about the potential for an obstruction. If she only vomited twice and is now eating, drinking and acting like her normal self you could monitor her through there day and see if it happens again. If she doesn’t want to eat, vomits again, or seems lethargic or painful you should definitely see your veterinarian.

Poor girl. An obstruction is always on the list when a dog, particularly a young dog, is vomiting, however, because this ordeal started with diarrhea first and she's only vomited once, an obstruction is much less likely. Feeding her rice was a great idea, and since the diarrhea is ongoing and it's been more than 24 hours, I would recommend a vet visit in the morning. You only need to take her to an emergency clinic if she's very lethargic, or the diarrhea/vomiting is very frequent (more than every 2-3 hours), or you feel like something is just not right.

As far as possible causes, there are quite a few, but it includes intestinal parasites, gut irritation from dietary indiscretion, and less likely would be a metabolic or endocrine issue starting up.

If she has been vomiting for 4 days then she should be examined by a vet to determine if she has an obstruction. Your vet can take an x-ray of her abdomen to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If she has an obstruction she would need surgery to treat the problem.

Yes, if your puppy has been vomiting after eating abnormal material, she should absolutely be seen by a veterinarian. Pads can potentially cause obstruction of her stomach or intestines. She should be evaluated and have radiographs performed to rule out an obstruction of her gastrointestinal tract, ASAP.

My puppy ate clothing and is trying to vomit. What should I do?

Poor girl. Let her vomit. If she vomits up the particles well then that is a good thing. However if she tries to vomit and cannot produce anything, or if she continues to vomit liquids and refuses food, then this is concerning for a potential blockage and she should be taken to your vet right away. So monitor her for the next 24-48 hrs for any signs of a blockage which includes: excessive vomiting (even water), refusing food, few feces, +/- abdominal pain, and lethargy. If she doesn't have any of these symptoms and can keep her food down well, then she is likely to be just fine. However for the future you should try to keep these harmful things out of her reach, because puppies are very curious and will put almost anything in their mouths, not realizing how harmful they can be.

If he continues to vomit than you should be worried and have him examined by a vet. Your vet can take an X-ray to look for signs of an obstruction. If the vomiting has resolved than just monitor him for additional signs.

As long as Snowball is acting okay and does not continue to vomit, I would not worry too much. It is not unusual for puppies to vomit occasionally especially if it is been a long time since they've eaten. If Snowball becomes lethargic, develops diarrhea or continues to vomit, she should be seen by a veterinarian. Potential causes for vomiting besides that described above include parasites, eating something irritating to the intestinal tract, infections or metabolic issues such as liver and kidney problems.

My puppy ate fabric. What to do and how to prevent future chewing?

Unfortunately, vomiting up a foreign body can only be done if the item was consumed in the past two hours, and given that you aren't sure when your pup ate your pillowcase, it may be too late to induce vomiting. There's nothing you can do to make her pass it quicker, and I would caution against using any human medications without veterinary approval or using a method you find on the internet as you may do harm to your pup. You can try giving her a slice of whole wheat bread now, and with every meal to form a ball of ingesta around the pillowcase to help cushion it as is passes through her GI tract. You can feed this piece of bread to her with every meal. I would monitor her for the next 72 hours of signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. Should you see any of those signs, please take her into the vet immediately. When you leave the house, I would recommend putting her in a crate, as that will keep her from getting into things while you are gone.
