My dog ate Crayola air dry clay. Is it toxic? What should I do next?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 16 days old | 11.5 lbs

My 11.5 pound poochon may have eaten a quarter size of crayola air dry clay. I found some on the fur around his mouth but i'm not sure he actually ingested it. He hasn't vomited but is drinking a lot of water.

Hello. Fortunately, there is nothing toxic in this product. However, there is a very small chance that this could lead to an intestinal blockage, if he ate any at all. I would go ahead & take a slice of bread, & apply a good layer of Vaseline to it. Feed Hikaru a piece at a time, allowing him to eat as much as he likes up to the whole piece of bread. The Vaseline will not be actually absorbed, but will coat any possible pieces of the clay helping things to pass through smoothly. The clay will possibly soften with the moisture in the gut & the warmer body temperature, too. You should see a softer stool in about 12-18 hours & may last for a day or so, but there should be no abdominal discomfort or vomiting. If you do see more than 1 episode of vomiting, or you think there is any abdominal pain or bloating, please see your veterinarian immediately. My dog ate painted styrofoam berries. Is lead or blockage a risk?

This is unlikely to cause any serious problems - it sounds like the berries are small enough that they should pass through the intestines without getting stuck, even in a small dog like Dorothy. I doubt very much that the paint would have been lead-based, as this is known to be such a hazard now for both children and pets - most lead-based paint is found in old houses, and is very rarely used for anything else anymore. As long as she is acting normal, I wouldn't worry - the berries should pass through her GI tract and pass harmlessly in her poop within 2-3 days. If she has any symptoms like repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, or not eating, it would be a good idea to have her seen for a check-up to make sure everything is okay.

If Toshi chewed the cork fairly recently, you can help to push it through by spreading a piece of white bread with some Vaseline & feed a piece at a time. My puppy ate kinetic sand. Could it cause an intestinal blockage?

Kinetic sand is non toxic. A small amount should pass uneventfully as you've seen. A larger amount ingested at once can pose a risk of gastric or intestinal obstruction. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian. Restrict access to the room it is in or place it out of her reach when she is around.

My dog ate non-toxic printmaking ink. Should I be worried about him?

Thank you for providing the information that the ink is non-toxic! If he only ate a little of it and it's non-toxic, Archie should be fine. You may see some GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea, and if you do, you can try a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. I hope this helps!
