My dog ate a condom, it passed, but he's still vomiting. Vet needed?

If the condom was entirely in the sick there is nothing to be extremely worried about. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, lethargy or inappetence. Oh dear! Dogs are notorious for eating things they shouldn't on walks, unfortunately. It's possible that the condom may pass through his system without any problems, but it could also become lodged in his stomach or intestines and cause an obstruction. I would recommend continuing to monitor him closely for the next 2-3 days. As long as he's acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry. But if he develops any signs of a blockage such as repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, acting lethargic, or not having regular bowel movements, then you will need to take him to the vet right away for an exam and x-rays, as he may need surgery to remove the condom.

They may pass through without a problem. I recommend feeding the dogs extra now to help them pass through more quickly with the food. Keep an eye on the stool to see if they pass through. In the next day or two if they start vomiting, can’t defecate, or have abdominal pain then you’ll need to get them to a veterinarian. In a dog this small a condom could become stuck in her intestines causing an obstruction. If she just ate it you can try to induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide. She can have one teaspoon. If she does not vomit or if she ate it more than one hour ago then you should get her to your vet.

If you have recovered everything he ate from his vomit, then you may be able to just monitor him, however if Shaky is still acting very ill, or there is more he hasn't passed/vomited yet, I would be worried it could cause a blockage. If this is the case, it is best to seek veterinary care for examination/X-rays to see if a blockage is present.

Peroxide can be damaging to the esophagus and stomach as it causes a lot of inflammation and irritation. Taking her to a vet so they can give an injectable medicine to induce vomiting is an option. The concern is it has potential to get stuck half way up and cause problems if lodged there. Sometimes this will not pass through the intestines and will require surgery to be removed. Having her asses by a vet now would be best. If not you should monitor for vomiting, lethargy, anorexia and diarrhea

I am sorry to hear about Apollo! If he is eating and drinking normally, not vomiting, has no abdominal pain and no lethargy, then I would continue to monitor him for another day or two. If he does show any of these signs he should be seen by his vet right away. You may consider adding a few teaspoons of canned pumpkin to his food to add some fiber in an attempt to help things pass through!
