My puppy ate a condom and hasn't pooped it out. What should I do?

Oh dear! Dogs are notorious for eating things they shouldn't on walks, unfortunately. It's possible that the condom may pass through his system without any problems, but it could also become lodged in his stomach or intestines and cause an obstruction. I would recommend continuing to monitor him closely for the next 2-3 days. As long as he's acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry. But if he develops any signs of a blockage such as repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, acting lethargic, or not having regular bowel movements, then you will need to take him to the vet right away for an exam and x-rays, as he may need surgery to remove the condom.

If the condom was entirely in the sick there is nothing to be extremely worried about. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, lethargy or inappetence. Oh no! Dogs can be really gross sometimes, but trust me when I say Bam-Bam is not the only dog to eat a tampon. It's great that he pooped it out, which means it isn't stuck. It's also a good sign that he is eating, drinking, and acting ok. He may not have pooped today because he was throwing up the day before and likely not eating, so there was no food in his stomach to digest and make into feces. I would monitor him for now, and give him a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie puree) with his food to give him more fiber in his diet and encourage him to poop. If he has not pooped in another 24-48 hours, I would be concerned that he may have eaten another tampon you didn't know about and it's stuck, or that he has constipation. I would take him to a vet at that point for a check, he may need a laxative or enema to help him poop, or x-rays to see if there is another tampon still in his system.

Sometimes pups do not poop as often as usual. I would not be worried yet. In case of a foreign body ingestion and blockage, a dog usually gets diarrhea first (the body is trying to get rid of the foreign body), then that stops and the dog will start to vomit and retch and get lethargic. Not pooping on time is not something to get worried about yet. You can feed a little bit of canned pumpkin to ease defecation. Going for a walk helps also. Should Rocky not have had a bowel movement by tomorrow, he is likely constipated and will have to be seen by your vet.

They may pass through without a problem. I recommend feeding the dogs extra now to help them pass through more quickly with the food. Keep an eye on the stool to see if they pass through. In the next day or two if they start vomiting, can’t defecate, or have abdominal pain then you’ll need to get them to a veterinarian. Signs of an intestinal blockage normally include repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements. If any of these symptoms develop over the next few days, then I would definitely take your pup to the vet for an exam as he may need emergency surgery to remove the glove.
