My 20lb Jack Russell ate a chocolate chip cookie. Will she be okay?

The problem with a jaffa cake is that they do contain some chocolate, and without knowing how much chocolate was in the cake, I can't say if he will be ok or not. I would have him seen by a vet immediately to have vomiting induced with a shot to prevent any chance of chocolate toxicity.

The amount of chocolate he ate in those cookies and the size he is makes me feel that he's probably going to be fine. The amount of chocolate and the darkness of it are the main factors, along with the size of your dog in determining if he will have adverse effects. Monitor him for vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, muscle rigidity, rapid breathing without exertion, or increased body temperature. If he displays ony of these symptoms, get him to a vet right away.

It sounds like there was not enough chocolate in the two cookies that Winnie ate to cause a problem. Keep an eye on her for the rest of the night. Signs of chocolate toxicity include hyperactivity, excessive vomiting, tremors, and seizures. If you notice any of the symptoms I would take her into the vet right away. But based on how much you described that she had I think she should be fine.

No worries about this. Even if it was a rather big cookie with big chunks of chocolate, it would not be enough to cause chocolate toxicity in a dog that size. One of the first signs of chocolate toxicity is vomiting and hyperactivity. If you haven't noticed this yet, then there's little chance he will have any signs of toxicity. If he happens to show these signs, then a trip to the vet will be needed for monitoring and medication. I see he's a good sized dog at 55lbs, so chances are eating this cookie is not going to cause him any problems. At most, you may see some GI upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see anything at all. It can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to occur, so monitor him over this time period. Do not let him get ahold of any more cookies! I hope this helps!

Most dogs will not have any clinical signs with milk chocolate until it reaches about a little more than an oz per 10 pounds. So, even if the milk chocolate truffle was 4oz, she should still be OK. Of course, the darker the chocolate the less they can tolerate. I would not induce vomiting at this small amount of consumption. I hope this eases your mind. But that amount of cookies could cause tummy upset or pancreatitis. If Mulan starts vomiting, having diarrhea or won't eat then make an appointment with your Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!
