My dog ate a chicken wing. Should I make him vomit or call the vet?

Oh dear! Turkey wings can certainly be dangerous for dogs, as the bones can splinter and cause an obstruction or even perforate the intestines. It's not recommended to induce vomiting in this case, since the bones could damage the esophagus coming up, so you will need to monitor him for the next few days for any problems. Signs of an intestinal blockage or perforation would include repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, not wanting to eat, or not having bowel movements. If you see any of these symptoms, I would recommend taking him to the vet right away since he may need treatment or even emergency surgery to remove the bones.

If it has been less than an hour since your pet ate it, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. If at any time he develops lethargy, fever, repeated vomiting, abdominal pain, or any other adverse symptoms, he should be seen by your vet right away. The plastic could cause a blockage that can seriously damage his intestines.

For the most part I recommend monitoring after chicken bone ingestion - while sometimes they can become lodged in the esophagus or the intestines, and they can also cause stomach upset, the majority of the time they don't cause any symptoms at all. Most dogs chew them into small pieces before ingesting them. If Neveah vomits, has a decrease in appetite, or develops diarrhea contact your vet right away.

I'm not sure how big Joey is, but in my experience it would be uncommon for a single chicken wing (or half of one) to cause any problems unless he's a very tiny dog. If he does not produce the underwear, he needs to go to the vet right away. This could cause a blockage in his intestines, or it could cause the intestines to bunch up along the fabric and slow or even stop the blood supply to them. If left untreated, this condition can be deadly.

Unfortunately after a chicken bone is eating, there's nothing that can be done. It's not recommended to induce vomiting, as the bone can get stuck in the esophagus or cause trauma to it. I would monitor Apollo for sign of obstruction and damage to the intestinal tract, which include vomiting, diarrhea, bloody feces, anorexia, constipation, vomiting blood, and lethargy. Should you see any of those signs, you will need to take Apollo into a vet immediately. You can give him a slice of whole wheat bread with every meal to form a ball of ingesta around the bone and cushion it as it passes through the GI tract.
