My dog ate cat litter pellets. What should I do if he's less active?

Oh dear! It's very common for dogs to do this, unfortunately - most of them love cat poop, and will eat it any chance they get. The good news is, it rarely causes any problems apart from some mild stomach upset as long as he only ate a small amount. If he ingested a large amount of cat litter, there is a chance that this could cause an obstruction in his intestines - this is unusual in my experience, but can happen in dogs who consume really large amounts. Signs of this problem would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, and not having bowel movements. If you notice any of these issues over the next day or two, then I would recommend taking Marcellus to the vet right away to be checked. But as long as he is eating fine and acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry.

Oh no! Clumping cat litter can cause intestinal blockage if she eats enough of it. Also, losing weight is not expected unless they were not feeding her enough or she really is sick. The smelling like urine could be from getting in the box but it could also indicate kidney damage if she got into something toxic. I recommend to play it safe and have her examined by the veterinarian. She is so young and as you know, puppies are more fragile than adults. Try to get her in today if at all possible. Also make sure that the normal things are happening, she’s eating well (puppies should have big appetites), she’s having normal bowle movements and urinating normally and she should be playful. The wood litter typically is not large enough to cause any major problems and if she chewed on them and made them even smaller. I would monitor for now and if you begin to notice any symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain, etc., then I would recommend taking her in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Yuck! Poor Mattie. I would agree with you that the coloration of the vomit certainly looks similar to cat litter, so this is very possible. As long as you don't know of anything toxic that she may have gotten into, and she is acting normal otherwise, it should be okay for you to monitor her at home for now. I would withhold food for the next few hours to make sure that her stomach has a chance to settle. If she continues to vomit throughout the evening, or if she begins to act lethargic or show any other symptoms, then it would be best to take her to an emergency vet to be seen.

The silica packets are actually not toxic, so I don't think the vomiting and lethargy are related to that. However, those are still concerning signs and I would recommend taking Beggar to her vet today for an exam, blood work, and x rays. She could have a metabolic issue, a foreign body, or IBD.

Lethargy can be a sign of a blockage, but it's good that Bud is eating, drinking, and pooping. I'd keep an eye on him for now, and if he's still lethargic in the morning, have him seen by a vet. Rush him into an ER vet if he vomits, has diarrhea, stops passing feces, or stops eating. Best of luck.

If Bucky hasn't defecated in 2 days and is vomiting and/pr straining he needs to see Vet for an exam, belly X-ray and likely an enema. Constipation is a symptom of something else. In older cats constipation tends to be secondary to kidney disease or intestinal disease. Your Vet may also want to do blood work. he likely will have to be on Miralax, or a stool softener long term.
