My dog vomited gray. Is it cat litter? Should I take her to the vet?

Unfortunately, these signs are rather vague, and can be caused by a number of conditions including hair balls, intestinal parasites, inappropriate diet, and other more serious conditions such as certain cancers. I recommend having Mel seen by his vet to determine exactly what is going on. You can try feeding a bland diet at home, making sure he gets plenty of water, and grooming Mel to limit hair balls. Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I would not be overly worried about a single episode of vomiting but I cannot make this call for you. You know your dog best so if you are worried then you should take her in now for an exam. If you want to just watch her for a few hours you can. I would not wait days though. If you monitor her for a few hours and the vomiting continues or she starts with other symptoms (diarrhea, not eating, etc) then she should definitely see a vet.

I would be concerned that it could cause Skye some GI upset such as vomiting. If it does, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. This is not a toxic food (even if she ate a lot), so I wouldn't be too worried. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's likely that this just upset her stomach. Usually they vomit once or twice, then get over it. It's best not to feed her until morning while her stomach settles. If she starts vomiting multiple times (three or more) and is acting lethargic or abnormal, then I would be more concerned and recommend a visit to the vet. This is not specific to any disease, but indicates that something is either directly upsetting their stomachs, or generally making them feel nauseous. The yellow color is due to bile staining which doesn't tell much other than they are vomiting on an empty stomach. One possibility is that they ate something they were not supposed to like medication, a chemical (i.e. antifreeze), raw meat, or a plant (i.e. lilies). Vomiting is often the first signs of an exposure to a toxin, so I recommend checking if it's possible for them to have eaten anything other than their normal diet. Vomiting and nausea can also be due to an infectious disease, organ failure, or imbalance in the blood. In order to narrow down the possibilities, you would have to take them to the vet for an evaluation. This doesn't appear to be an emergency, but if they are acting very depressed and is vomiting continuously, then it would be best to take them to the vet sooner rather than later. If they are otherwise acting normal, then it's important to not give any food for the next eight hours, but make sure they have plenty of clean water available. If they are not vomiting in eight hours, then only feed a small amount of food (about 1Tbsp.). If they keep that down, then you can feed a little more in two hours. If the vomiting is continuing tomorrow, then it's best to take them to the vet for an evaluation. If Lexus continues to vomit or starts to have diarrhea in the next 24-48 hours I would bring her in to see your veterinarian as she may benefit from anti-nausea medication, fluids, anti-diarrheal antibiotics and a prescription intestinal diet. If she continues to act normally with a normal activity level, normal frequent of stool and no vomiting/diarrhea, you are likely in the clear! Good luck!
