My dog ate butter and cheese. Is a vet visit needed for fatty foods?

Yikes! Butter isn't toxic, but it could potentially cause her to relapse to her recent problems since it is very high in fat. Hopefully not, but it can cause very greasy stools or even diarrhea for a day or two. If Maddie starts vomiting or has a poor appetite, then she should probably get checked out by the vet (again). If she is ok other than loose stools or diarrhea, I would wait for 48 hours, and see a vet if it is still going on at the end of that period.

She is a larger dog, so she will likely be OK. I would monitor her closely for any gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. Acute intake of fatty foods can cause acute pancreatitis in dogs, which can range from an easy fix to a multi-day hospitalization with potential for life-threatening complications. If Xena becomes inappetant, has episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, or simply isn't acting herself, I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian. It is unlikely that the high-calcium buffalo treats will cause any issues. I hope this is helpful!

Naughty dog! I too have a counter surfer. ;) The biggest concern here would be possible pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to the high fat content. (the pancreas produces enzymes that help digest fat, and when the pancreas is overwhelmed it can cause pancreatitis). Generally symptoms include vomiting, inappetence, and abdominal pain. Its not LIKELY to cause pancreatitis if your dog doesn't have a history of this problem, but it is POSSIBLE. It will likely cause some loose stools. If you have an emergency hospital nearby, you could consider taking him there for them to induce vomiting, to try to minimize the chances of him developing pancreatitis. (If you are the "do everything I absolutely can to prevent a problem" type.) However, I don't think it is absolutely imperative that you do that....unless he has a history of pancreatitis in the past. It is reasonable to just monitor him at home, and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for next day or two. Expect some loose stools, but if he starts to become lethargic and/or starts vomiting and/or is not wanting to eat, take him to your vet. Maxi can get pancreatitis from this or diarrhea and vomiting. I would recommend giving her a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) just to calm everything down and then monitor her. If she starts vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, becomes lethargic then I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian. I recommend you have Mocha seen by a vet, as you mentioned she is acting unwell and vomiting, and that amount of fat intake could lead to pancreatitis. I would fast him for 24 hours and let him digest the donuts he ate. He may develop dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, etc. If he begins to vomit and become lethargic, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatments recommendations can be made.
