My puppy ate boxwood flowers and is vomiting. Is it an emergency?

It can certainly cause vomiting and diarrhea and she could be shaking from dehydration for instance. All these symptoms could be making Sammy uncomfortable. For this reason, I do think that Sammy should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. You may take her to your local emergency clinic tonight. They would be able to treat her symptomatically and check for dehydration and treat her accordingly. If you know for sure that she got into a plant, you can contact the ASPCA poison control (https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control) which will help your veterinarian treat her. If you're not sure that she got into a plant, I would take her to your nearest emergency vet today. Puppies can get very sick from a number of different diseases and will get sicker faster than adult dogs. Puppies can quickly have problems getting dehydrated, having low blood sugar and having problems regulating their temperature when they get sick. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Ilex can cause toxicity that is usually limited to GI signs (vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc). If your dog is now happy and running and playing and eating normally, then I wouldn't do anything else. If he is still vomiting, not eating, or seems sore in his abdomen, then he likely needs medications to help with his toxicity, and if vomiting and diarrhea is severe he might need IV fluids. If he is still unwell 1 hour after ingesting the plants, and not wanting to eat, then I would bring him to a vet right away. Best of luck with your little one, I hope he is feeling better.

It can cause gastro-intestinal upset, labored breathing, eye discharge and sometimes neurologic problems. The most common signs are stomach upset: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating. I am hoping that Buddy's symptoms are mild. If he is eating and has stopped vomiting I would feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. If he won't eat or is still vomiting he should see a Vet today for supportive care. I hope this helps and I wish Buddy the best!

Oh no, that was naughty of Oliver to eat those greens! Certain varieties of the lily are toxic to dog, and eating these varieties can cause GI upset, anorexia, and tremors. You have seen some GI upset, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
