My dog ate bones, is throwing up and weak. What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry Shadow isn't feeling well. It could be pancreatitis but it could also be just general stomach upset. He ate something his body isn't used to and there were sharp bone fragments. He could also have a piece of the bone stuck somewhere. I would recommend taking him to the vet because he is young and I don't want him to dehydrate. They may need to take X-rays. They can then give him medications to calm his stomach. In the future I would not recommend giving Shadow any bones for fear of the above things. Good luck and kisses to Shadow!

Keep an eye on Dobby. As long as he's keeping his food down, keep feeding him and offering him plenty of water. Give him half a slice of whole wheat bread with each meal. This may form a ball of ingesta around the bones, and cushion them as they pass through the GI tract. If he continues vomiting, there is blood in his vomit or feces, he becomes lethargic, and/or he stops eating, he needs to see a vet immediately. In that case, find an ER vet or a vet on call. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

It could be due to dietary indiscretion or even more concerning due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. The fact that Bailey ate dinner and did not vomit makes me think that it is less likely for this to be an obstruction though if the vomiting resumes or he stops eating, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This sounds quite serious for Beautifull. Pork bones can splinter and cause significant damage to the esophagus, stomach and intestines. In some cases, they can perforate the gastrointestinal tract or cause an obstruction/blockage. Unless a parasite burden is enormous, worms are highly unlikely to cause an obstruction. However, if she did have a huge flea infestation, she could have developed anemia (low red blood cell count) as a result of the fleas consuming her blood. Since this has been going on for another 36 hours, I am concerned that Beautifull may be severely dehydrated and/or anemic, which may be contributing to her severe lethargy. Beautifull needs to be seen by a vet immediately for an exam, red blood cell count (on a CBC or PCV), and abdominal x-rays to get to the source of her problem. In the future, make sure she receives a high quality flea preventative (Nexgard, Bravecto, Advantix) once per month.

Poor Aj! I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam, as from your description I'm concerned that he may have an intestinal blockage or some damage to his stomach or intestines from the bone. Your veterinarian can take x-rays to assess the situation and see what needs to be done.

You should never give your dog bones, it is possible that he has an intestinal blockage due to the bone ingestion, i strongly recommend taking him to the vet ASAP in order to have an xray done. if the bone is still there and blocking the GI system, a surgery to have the bone removed is necessary.

Shooter has probably developed gastritis from eating the bone. I would recommend withholding food (water is ok as long as he’s not vomiting it all up) for 12-24 hours. After that you can try feeding him something that will be easily digestible and easy on his GI tract like plain boiled chicken and rice. If the vomiting continues for more than 24 hours and/or if he starts having diarrhea then I would take him in to the vet to be examined. I hope this helps.
