My dog ate his bed's stuffing. Should I be worried about a blockage?

Hello. The first thing you need to do is recover or throw this bed away. Much depends on how much Snowind may have ingested, but most times only a small piece is ingested. Most pets are just interested in a taste & rarely eat enough to cause a problem. You should just keep an eye on him for any abnormal gastrointestinal signs such as loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea over the next several days. I would recommend contacting Midnight's vet about this. Depending on how long ago he ate it it may be recommended to induce vomiting and to try to get him to throw up the sheet. Otherwise closely monitor him for the next few days to weeks for any sign of intestinal blockage; which can include vomiting, straining to defecate, painful in the abdomen, not eating or drinking. If it was just a very small amount, he will likely be OK. The biggest concern when a dog eats something he shouldn't is a foreign body obstruction, meaning the item causes a blockage of his intestines. This would be a surgical emergency. If Rocky continues to act normally - normal attitude, normal eating/drinking/urinating/defecating, and is not vomiting, he will likely be OK. Hi there. It could be a little too early for Snowball to pass the stuffing. We always worry any time a puppy ingests anything it shouldn't. Please watch her stools to see if anything is passing or if you note any blood in her feces, etc. If she shows any signs of vomiting or diarrhea, please take her in. Depending on the amount of stuffing she took in-she could potentially become obstructed which could make her very sick. It sounds like you're watching her very closely, good for you! If a puppy ingests a large quantity of the cotton stuffing, it may create a blockage in his stomach or intestines which is considered an emergency. If you are unsure of how much he ingested, I would take him to the vet now to check for a blockage. If the cotton was ingested less than 1 hour ago, they may even be able to induce him to vomit in order to throw up the cotton. I hope this helps, and that Hachi is doing okay!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Puppies are hard! Sadly ingesting fabric can cause an obstruction. If you aren't sure if she ingested any then you can fast her or if you haven't fed her yet have her seen for an X-ray. If she hasn't eaten in 12 hours or more she should have an empty stomach. If it is full then we'd be worried about fabric in her stomach. The other option is to wait and see if it becomes a problem. Signs of a blockage are lethargy, vomiting, not eating, and belly pain. If any of these symptoms occur then she would need to be seen right away. Since she is a bed destroyer I would recommend not allowing her access to beds, blankets, sheets or stuffed animals until she outgrow this. She will be fine sleeping on a hard surface. I would just monitor him for any sign like vomiting, having diarrhoea or not passing feces at all, being inappetent or lethargic. Abdominal discomfort and frequent praying stance would be other possible signs. Just in case, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
