My puppy ate antifreeze and is having seizures. Can she be saved?

Early intervention is ABSOLUTELY needed to avoid toxicity and save his life. Side effects can show up even few days later than the ingestion of the antifreeze. Take Tioga to your veterinarian and have him checked and treated immediately.

If your vet is sure your cat is suffering from anti-freeze toxicity, then yes, unfortunately at this stage euthanasia is the most humane option as this will be fatal in a painful way. Eitherway it sounds like Cas is very very sick, and euthanasia might be his best option, even if the cause isn't anti-freeze. I am sorry that Cas is so sick.

Hello. If a dangerous or toxic amount of antifreeze was consumed, stage 1 symptoms can show up as early as 30 minutes & include vomiting, ataxia, weakness or depression. Signs may subside in an hour or two before progressing to a swift decline in health 6-12 hours post ingestion. During this stage, you may see panting & a significant increase in thirst & also urination. Complete shutdown of the kidneys usually occurs around 72 - 96 hours post ingestion. So if you are seeing absolutely no signs at 12 hours, you are probably OK, but if there are ever any doubts, take your dog to your vet because bloodwork will be the best way to diagnose a suspicion rather than waiting to see if anything develops ( which may now be too late to treat ). Yes. I would recommend taking her to an emergency veterinarian immediately. She could be having seizures from hypoglycemia which is treatable, but can be fatal if not treated quickly. She could also have a liver shunt or developmental problem with her brain causing seizures. Trauma or ingestion of toxins can cause seizures as well. If she has had that many seizures in a short period there is potential for permanent brain damage. Head to a vet as soon as you can - I’ll be hoping for the best for Daisy!

I'm so sorry this is happening to Ammy. Seizures can occasionally occur as part of an anaphylactic reaction to a vaccine. Depending on her other symptoms it's possible that the seizures are unrelated as well, and it is possible that she has an underlying neurologic condition. It's difficult to give specific advice since I am unable to fully evaluate Ammy, but if your vet thinks there is only a 10% chance of her surviving this is not good. Euthanasia may be the most humane option. If you're still not sure you can talk to your vet about specifics, or you may want to decide on a period of time during which to offer supportive care (say, 12-24 hours) and if Ammy has still not improved consider euthanasia at that point.

I'm so sorry this is happening to your puppies! I doubt this is due to poisoning, although seizures can be caused by toxins. I would be more concerned about an infectious disease like Distemper or certain parasites, or a hereditary disease. It may be that the females are falling sick due to chance (and the male puppies might start getting sick). I don't think there would be much for you to do for the remaining puppies if you are unable to see a veterinarian, but you may want to consider having a necropsy (animal autopsy) performed if another puppy dies - this is often the best way to get a diagnosis since many tests cannot be performed on very young puppies.

Poor Jimmy I'm so sorry to hear this! Jimmy really could do with being in the hospital on intravenous fluids to keep flushing the poison out of his system. Also he would benefit from drug therapy to prevent seizures and muscle spasms which is the usual cause of death. If it is impossible for you to get him to the vet again tonight all you can do is encourage him to drink as much as possible, and keep light and sound to a minimum so as not to encourage seizuring. I really hope that he pulls through, but he would have the best chance staying in hospital.
