My dog was poisoned with strychnine, having seizures. What do I do?

Yes, this indeed may become life threatening and I recommend you seek an emergency appointment for intravenous fluids and supportive care at any clinic you can get. There is no appropriate home remedy for such a severe presentation but try to maintain fluid intake as far as possible if he is able to swallow and not vomiting

Pokey sounds very ill and needs immediate veterinary treatment. This could be from poison or more likely an infection, metabolic problem or cancer. She definitely needs IV fluids to prevent dehydration which can become life threatening. In general with most poisons they would die quickly. Since this has been going on for a few days there is a good chance with proper treatment she could recover quickly. Do not delay, take him to your veterinarian or to the nearest veterinary ER. If he has been poisoned, he may need supportive care. Blood work may be able to determine if it is a metabolic issue as opposed to poison, but there is no way to test for specific poisons.

I would take Milo into a vet now. He sounds quite sick, and he needs immediate veterinary attention. If he seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near his mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor him at all times during the seizure to ensure that he cannot hurt himself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately Best of luck.

Sorry to hear about Tobie. I am wondering if Potassium Bromide is the only drug he is currently using for Seizure activity. I ask because it is not typically a first line of defense sort of medication that we choose any more for these conditions, due to level of effectiveness and side effect profile. If he is not used to this type of medication, an increased dose can definitely result in some unwanted side effects. Since you gave it a while ago already, there is not much you can do for him in terms of getting it out of his system forcibly, other than letting nature run its course. However, he may benefit from supportive care in a hospital setting if you feel his symptoms are very concerning. Personally, I would not allow him to continue walking freely around the house right now in case he accidentally injures himself. Once he is out of this stupor, he can be unconfined. If this sort of behavior is continuing after another 12-24 hours, he should definitely be seen to determine if this is his disease process worsening. In terms of diarrhea, this could have been due to stress, the medication, or general GI upset from countless other reasons. One episode of diarrhea is not something of significant concern. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Xander! I am so sorry Xander is so ill from ingesting a toxic toad. There is no antidote for these toads. Once they ingest the toxin it is just supportive care until the toxin is out of the system. In some cases the toads are deadly. I suggest Xander be hospitalized if he is not improving and it has been 8 days. He should be in IV fluids and his seizures need to be controlled with medications. The toxin can cause electrolyte abnormalities that can cause heart arrhythmias and they can be in a lot of pain. I hope this helps and I wish Xander the very best!
