My puppy had seizures after vaccination. Should I consider euthanasia?

Yes. I would recommend taking her to an emergency veterinarian immediately. She could be having seizures from hypoglycemia which is treatable, but can be fatal if not treated quickly. She could also have a liver shunt or developmental problem with her brain causing seizures. Trauma or ingestion of toxins can cause seizures as well. If she has had that many seizures in a short period there is potential for permanent brain damage. Head to a vet as soon as you can - I’ll be hoping for the best for Daisy!

I'm so sorry this is happening to your puppies! I doubt this is due to poisoning, although seizures can be caused by toxins. I would be more concerned about an infectious disease like Distemper or certain parasites, or a hereditary disease. It may be that the females are falling sick due to chance (and the male puppies might start getting sick). I don't think there would be much for you to do for the remaining puppies if you are unable to see a veterinarian, but you may want to consider having a necropsy (animal autopsy) performed if another puppy dies - this is often the best way to get a diagnosis since many tests cannot be performed on very young puppies.

It's difficult for me to weigh-in on such a difficult decision without having all of the medical records available and being able to thoroughly discuss this with you. I can say that the decision to euthanize is extremely difficult and there is no right or wrong answer. I advise my clients to consider euthanasia when they feel like their pet is suffering so much that they don't seem themselves anymore; or just don't seem to enjoy life anymore. You will be the best judge of this. I would not expect that the dental treatment to improve the recent seizure activity, so if she already seems to be suffering, then I would reconsider the dental treatment. I am sorry to hear about Sailor! I would be concerned given her history about a possible hypoglycemic episode (low blood sugar) which is not uncommon in toy breed puppies. I would also be concerned that prior seizures could be a result of hypoglycemia. We don't normally see seizures as a result of not having vaccinations unless your dog had contracted distemper. First off, I'm very sorry you are in this situation. It's quite tough. I work for a home euthanasia service, so I face these questions with my clients all the time. I tell them to look at the dog's quality of life. I suggest making a list of five things the dog loved to do, and if they are no longer doing at least two of them, then their quality of life has declined to where euthanasia should be considered. If you are saying that Ceaser is still having seizures despite multiple medication changes and his quality of life has changed dramatically, then letting him go peacefully may be best for him. From what you are telling me, it sounds like you are very dedicated owner and have been doing everything in your power for him. Unfortunately sometimes that isn't enough. I don't think you are being selfish, you just want what is best for him, and you are showing you aren't selfish by asking if it's time to let him go. I am not sure what shots you are talking about. If you mean vaccinations, then it is not likely that she is having seizures caused by vaccinations. Poodles as well as spaniels are more prone to epileptic seizures than other breeds. She may also have a brain condition causing the seizures. If the seizures increase in number Pebbles may need anti-seizure medication.
