Can a dog's anal gland issue cause bladder control problems?

Hypothyroidism can lead to drinking and peeing more frequently, as well as a higher likelihood to have a urinary tract infection, and can also lead to neurological disorders. Likely the peeing inappropriately and peeing when nothing is coming out is a problem associated with her hypothyroidism and not associated with having her anal glands expressed. Anal glands and the bladder are not anatomically related, and these would not be associated with one another. I do recommend you bring her in to have her urine checked though. Hello. It is impossible to be absolutely certain, but it is possible that cleaning the anal glands left Maverick a little irritated, so the BM in the house may have just been accidental. He is also an older boy, so you many be seeing the first signs of fecal incontinence, often caused by spinal degeneration. If it happens again, I would recommend radiographing his back to see if there is any evidence of changes in the spinal column ( vertebra ). Sometimes steroids or anti-inflammatory medications can reduce inflammation for quite a while, but if this is what is going on, it could be progressive. A good neuro exam would be warranted, too. Fecal and urinary incontinence can be caused by many things including problems with the nervous system or nerves innervating these organs due to spinal cord problems, vetebrae problems, enlargement of organs near the back of the abdomen, tumors, anal region problems, urinary incontinence secondary to her being spayed, etc. So I would highly advise a trip to your veterinarian and let them take a thorough history. They will perform a physical exam and most likely a rectal exam and then advise a set of diagnostics to try to solve these problems. Blood work, fecal tests, x-rays and ultrasound are all initial possible tests to be performed. Once diagnostics are performed the problems can then be addressed. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the last portion of his intestine was lowered, however I think it is very unlikely that improper anal gland expression could lead to fecal incontinence. Sometimes dogs with chronic anal gland inflammation will leak anal gland fluid, however this would also probably not be related to improper expression and rather ongoing inflammation and anal gland disease. Fecal incontinence is more often a sign of a neurologic problem or occasionally gastrointestinal disease.

I am so sorry Buck is having this issue. If this has been going on since Buck was a puppy it could be a congenital problem (he was born with it. The most common problem is an ectopic ureter where the ureter (this carries the urine from the kidneys to the bladder) is actually attached in the wrong location on the bladder. This can cause leaking starting from an early age. To diagnose this in the end Buck would need an ultrasound. I would recommend a visit with your veterinarian and bringing a urine sample. This is to make sure that he does not have a urinary tract infection since dogs can have some increased frequency of urination if they have one. Usually incontinence can be due to an infection in the bladder, in this case the urine is usually quite drak and smelly. You can have it tested by a vet and treated accordingly. Alternatively in an older dog it can be due to incompetence of the sphnincter muscle, medications can help this. Other reasons can be hormonal issues or kidney problems. Neurological conditions are rare and tend to be associated with trauma and other signs such as paralysis. I would get her checked by her vet if it persists but leave any major treatment to her owners.

What she has is probably urinary incontinence, it is quite common in older spayed female dogs and it is unrelated to the pears. you should ask your vet for treatment for this condition which is usually very effective. nevertheless eating too much pears can cause Cyanide poisoning because of the seeds so you should try and prevent this from happening.
