An "average" dose, depending on concentration (20mg/ml or 40mg/ml) ranges between 0.25ml to 1 ml. This is a very potent steroid and long term use is not without risks. Other safer treatment options include allergy testing, hydrolyzed diets, antihistamine use and food elimination trials. Consider a recheck with your veterinarian or an internal medicine specialist. For food allergies, the best test is a food trial in which your dog doesn't eat any of a particular food for 3 months, and then if the allergy symptoms go away, you feed the old food again, and if the symptoms come back with the old food, it means she was indeed allergic to the food you were testing. The results of either type of test for environmental allergies are used to make shots to help the body learn to react less to the allergens. This takes several months to a year. However, because it is just a topical, it should not interfere with your test if you wait 2 weeks after the last application. The answer to your question really depends on when the injection was given, what type of steroid it was, what dose of steroid was given and what his Prednisone regimen has been, so your vet will need to answer that question. If your vet is already closed for the day, it will likely be safer to skip his Prednisone dose tonight and call them first thing in the morning to discuss when to resume his Prednisone. Some steroid injections only last for 12 hours, but some last for much longer, so you do not want Chester to have too high of a steroid dose tonight.
