A long acting corticosteroid shot usually last 8 weeks, but can last longer. I'm wondering if the drug you are speaking of is Temaril-P. That is prescribed to dogs for relief of itching, and it contains a steroid (prednisolone).

No it is not possible to do it now, you will have to wait until the steroids get out of his system, it depends which type of steroid injection was administered, some steroids stay in the system one week, and others up to a month, you will have to ask your vet about that.

Poor Maggie. I think there has been a misunderstanding. They probably gave 20mg (milligrams) which is equal to either 0.5mL (milliliters) or 1.0mL of depo-medrol depending on the concentration your vet carries. The general dose that most vets use is 20mg depomedrol per cat every 8 weeks as needed. I seriously doubt anyone would give 20mL of this drug. Also, it could be wearing off quicker if there are more allergens causing her skin to act up. With it being the changing of the seasons, this very well could be the issue. Also make sure she is on a high quality flea preventative. One flea bite can cause a major allergic reactions in cats with her problem. If she needs another depomedrol shot, I would talk to your vet and see if they would be willing to repeat the injection as early as 6-8 weeks during high allergy season. There are different types of cortisone injections. Some are longer lasting than others. Generally the excess drinking, eating and urination wear off in a few days to a week. If the side effects last longer then you may want to have a recheck and bloodwork to see if there is an undermedical issue causing the side effects. Excessive drinking and urination, as well as behavioral changes (aggression, hyperactivity and agitation can all occur) can all be attributed to steroid administration. Long acting steroids can last 2-4 weeks, depending upon which exact medication was given. As the steroid wears off, you should see these side effects resolve. Fiddle will return to his normal self again, don't worry! :-)

The answer to your question really depends on when the injection was given, what type of steroid it was, what dose of steroid was given and what his Prednisone regimen has been, so your vet will need to answer that question. If your vet is already closed for the day, it will likely be safer to skip his Prednisone dose tonight and call them first thing in the morning to discuss when to resume his Prednisone. Some steroid injections only last for 12 hours, but some last for much longer, so you do not want Chester to have too high of a steroid dose tonight.
