Fear and aggression are both often due to underlying fear and/or anxiety. Working with a trainer will help you learn how to correct behaviors in a way that doesn't exacerbate anxiety or fear. It may be helpful to discuss anti-anxiety medication with your veterinarian as well. What you are describing is not normal, but working with behavior modification techniques and possibly with medication could be very helpful. I am afraid that unless Murphy is properly assessed and trained, he is a bomb waiting to go off and very likely will hurt someone. I suggest you make an appointment with your vet to have him examined in order to rule out any physical or health reasons that feed his aggression. Then get a recommendation for a veterinary behavior specialist (or you can find one here: https://www.dacvb.org/ ) and have Murphy assessed and then the behaviorist will work with you to alleviate the aggression, and the urinating issue (which is likely a dominance issue). It is best to deal with this while he is a puppy.

Aggression is complicated because it can be playful aggression, dominance, possessive or anxiety. Unless you are very familiar with canine behavior, training and body language, this is a situation that requires a dog trainer. The trainer will watch Trevor’s behavior and then will teach you how to modify your behavior to change his. You should also get a few books about dog behavior and training so that you can learn how to recognize the body language as this will help. When a puppy shows aggression, I immediately advise neutering him to remove the male hormone-driven behaviors. I would advise taking him to your veterinarian for their opinion also. He may have some medical reason for his sudden onset of aggression. Your vet can gather a history, perform an exam and then offer a diagnostic/treatment plan based on their findings. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests and x-rays to look for underlying medical problems that could cause aggression. What a beautiful thing to do to adopt Joey Jax and give him a forever home, despite his issue. You are his hero. I can offer you some tactics to attempt, however, my best advice is that because we don't know what poor Joey Jax has been through to make him become aggressive, it would be a great idea to have an appointment with an animal behaviourist. They can monitor his reactions and analyse his overall demeanour and give you advice tailored specifically to Joey Jax. I also recommend a once over form a veterinarian to ensure there aren't any underlying medical conditions causing pain for example. Try the following; Exercise twice daily Reward positive interactions Stop interacting if any unpleasant interactions occur No harsh tones or striking as contributes to the problem No negative punishment Interactive games like fetch and hide and go seek Thunder coat Keep away from other dogs and people while you are helping him adjust Remember kindness begets kindness. So over time if Joey Jax is treated well he will expect kindness and therefore return it with kindness not fear aggression. The key is making him feel secure and loved. Best of luck with Joey Jax

Definitely take Max into a veterinary behavioral expert for help! Aggressive dogs are not something to leave alone, and this behavior can and does get worse over time. In addition, if he did bite someone, he could seriously injure them and there could be very severe repercussions for that occurring including euthanasia. There are a number of cases where a dog has had to be put to sleep for biting people, and you do not want that to happen. Speak to your vet about a referral to a professional behavioral expert asap. They must show you how to read his body language and how to respond in a fashion to modify their behavior.
