Fear and aggression are both often due to underlying fear and/or anxiety. Working with a trainer will help you learn how to correct behaviors in a way that doesn't exacerbate anxiety or fear. Aggression is complicated because it can be playful aggression, dominance, possessive or anxiety. Unless you are very familiar with canine behavior, training and body language, this is a situation that requires a dog trainer. I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with him! Some rescue dogs can be challenging and a certified behaviorist may be able to provide some options but with behavior this extreme I would be concerned about a possible brain lesion which would require CT/MRI to diagnose. You must at all times keep you and your families safety your priority and if such investigations are not feasible, euthanasia would not be a wrong decision either given the risk to others and the poor quality of life he is experiencing given he is so reactive and unpredictable

I see that Romeo isn't neutered. This aggression could be hormonally related, and he's peeing to mark his territory and attacking to protect his territory. I would have him neutered as soon as possible, as that will help with any aggressive behaviors that are related to hormones. Then I would have Romeo seen by a professional behavioral expert. It's very serious that he's bitten you and your brother, and he could bite other people. Aggression isn't something that I ever recommend owners try to work with on their own due to safety issues, it's something that should be left up to an expert. After Romeo is neutered, you can discuss a referral to behavioral expert with your vet.

Your dog is definitely not in good health, he might be suffering from more than one medical condition, you will need to take him to the vet to get him checked, he will need a blood test to start with.

Ths is very concerning and I recommend you contact a behaviorist for a house visit to fully assess all the triggers and issues in this case. Boundaries are very important and I recommend you restrict his access in the house in order to provide some social structure to his routine - allowing a dog to sleep on the beds and couches can result in mixed messages as to his place in the pack and lead him to think he actually controls the house and access to all things important. It is important he gets sufficient exercise for both mental and physical stimulation every day and should be outdoors at least 1.5-2hours a day as a largem active dog. Do not allow him to be undupervised with your chilrdren at any time until you can have him fully assessed

Have Murphy physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose any medical causes for his behavior(s). This may require bloodwork and a urinalysis to assess major organ function and to diagnose systemic infection or UTI. Once that is done, focus on behavioral issues.On walks, consider a head harness, such as the Gentle leader or Halti, either will provide greater control and easy corrections with a gentle tug. Gradually desensitize him to seeing small animals by talking him on frequent walks. Correct negative behaviors immediately while consistently praising and rewarding good behaviors and appropriate responses to critters and other animals. Provide structure and routine as dogs thrive on both. Reinforce crate training and restrict access to your son's room. The crate should be just big enough for Murphy to stand, turn and lay down. Begin a consistent schedule for going out for elimination. Do not leave him unsupervised in the house. he is either crated or on a leash attached to your hip. Monitor for his cues that he needs to go out. This may include sniffing about, whining or circling. When he goes out, choose one designated area, take him to it and wait. Once he urinates or defecates, praise him profusely and offer a small treat or reward. Afterwards, he can go on a short walk. Be patient, be firm and be consistent.
