Husky aggressive, has diarrhea after heart/lung meds. What to do?

This type of behavior is usually related to fear - fear that is so extreme that the pet has no choice but fight or flight. It often leads to aggression. The bad news is that an expensive trainer may not be able to help Blue anyways because her fear level is so high. The good news is that there are several great anti-anxiety medications that can make a HUGE difference in Blue's life. Not only will they reduce fear (and therefore aggression), but they will make whatever training you try MUCH more effective. (Pets cannot learn when they are scared). My favorites are amitiptyline and trazadone, but there are others available. Talk to your vet about what is available and reasonable to try for Blue. No you can't, the dosage is way too high for him and i'm not sure at all that this antibiotic is what he needs at the moment anyway. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the diarrhea does not resolve, take him to the vet to get treatment.

Hello. I am so sorry that Hurshy has been so unwell. There is just so much missing information here & just so much more that can be done to try & discover what his problem is. You really need to find a veterinarian who will do a complete serum chemistry analysis to look at liver & kidney function ( more than just the BUN ), a complete blood count & a comprehensive urinalysis. He needs to be tested for heartworms & have chest x-rays done. I know this sounds like an awful lot, but Hurshy is too young to be so sick for such a long time. Hopefully, with more information, a diagnosis will be made, but I think I would stop the prednisone & I cannot make out what the other items are. Good luck & I hope he is feeling better soon. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Callie. If she is still experiencing these symptoms, then I recommend seeking emergency veterinary care this evening. She may be experiencing abdominal pain from whatever is causing the vomiting. Antibiotics can cause some gastrointestinal upset resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea, but I do not typically see patients as sick as she seems to be. I hope you are able to get her feeling better. I am sorry Lucu is not feeling well. I would recommend taking Lucu to the vet to determine if she maybe has an infection at the site of the fracture. It is also possible that she is having a reaction to the antibiotics and might need medications to help calm her stomach. I hope that helps

I am So sorry to hear that Russel has been so unwell. I am happy to hear his respiratory issues are resolved. It is possible that the same infection has affected his gastrointestnal tract, that the antibiotics themselves have upset his natural gut flora, or even that it’s all coincidence and Russel simply ate something he should have. From what you are describing, a liquid bowel movement which has fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Russell has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in dogs, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, stress, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed these issues for a day I would continue to monitor Russell at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. You can also add cooked mashed skinless sweet potatoes to help with the diarrhoea, a dog formulated probiotic, and low sodium chicken broth to help with fluid intake. If the episodes continue, if Russel becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Him to see his vet immediately. It is hard to say if the diarrhea is related to Summer’s respiratory issues or not. If it was parasites causing the problem, they certainly could be related. Also, sometimes certain antibiotics can upset the gut flora (the normal bacteria in the gut) and can cause diarrhea. Regardless of the cause of the diarrhea, starting Summer on metronidazole and a probiotic is a good idea. This is the typical treatment for diarrhea. I can understand that having your dog on two different antibiotics can be concerning but sometimes it is necessary. Metronidazole is great for diarrhea because it specifically targets the type of bacteria that overgrows causing the diarrhea. At this point I would recommend continuing the current therapy your vet prescribed. The diarrhea should start to resolve in 3-5 days.
