My Shiba Inu has diarrhea. Can I give him my Husky's amoxicillin?

Those are antibiotics, and as a side effect, can cause GI upset in the form of diarrhea. He may be very aggressive due to feeling badly from the diarrhea. I would call his vet now to let them know the problems you are seeing, as the vet may want to check things out. Be very careful around him yourself so you don't get hurt. Best of luck.

This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Her maximum daily dosage for 18.5kg is 900mg per day. I would not be giving 400mg three times a day as it could cause neurologic effects. You could try a bland diet of cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast or talk to your vet about deworming or a hypoallergenic diet.

I would not recommend giving her a human anti diahrrhea medication, dogs need special medications when it comes to diarrhea and these can be prescribed at the vet's. in the meantime withhold food for 12 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food.

Hi there and thank you for posting! If you have tried the bland diet and Pepto Bismol with no resolution to the diarrhea, I would see your veterinarian for further diagnostics and treatment. I would also bring stool samples with you so that your vet can check for intestinal parasites. This may be a dietary indiscretion that just needs a bit more treatment to resolve or something infectious such as an intestinal parasites. "Simple" diarrhea can frequently be managed at home by withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. Continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn’t stop or other symptoms (vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc.) develop, see your veterinarian.
