My dog barks and gets upset when my other dog has a seizure. Why?

Yes, anxiety and aggression are very common in and around seizures. Ideally you would not move her, unless she is a position to fall and hurt herself. Placing soft bedding around her and turning lights and volume of tv etc down can also help. Frequent or prolonged seizures should be assessed for preventive treatment by your vet

If no diagnostics have been performed yet, I would strongly recommend having Oscar's blood tested and see if there are any abnormalities moving forward. If there are no abnormalities, a neurologist would be the next one to see for a second opinion on why we may be seeing seizures in Oscar. I hope this helps! Other signs of seizures would be strange behavior before the seizure, the seizure itself can include shaking or tending of all the muscles, Bailey may urinate or defecate during as well. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and trying to film this if it happens again to show your vet. They can determine the cause of the seizure with blood work and more advanced imaging such as a CT scan. If seizure activity is confirmed, Bailey will likely be placed on anti-seizure medication. Seizures are complicated and every animal is different with their seizures, as well as their 'pre' and 'post' ictal (seizure) state. Some dogs have a post ictal state that can last a day or two, so this could explain her being hyper and restless. This likely will improve as Bella 'gets used' to what the seizure feels like. If seizures are occurring one after the other, mini or full, this is considered 'cluster' seizuring, and means that you might need to address the medication. Best of luck with Bella!

It sounds like your dog has unprovoked dog aggression, and because there isn't a trigger known for it, it's very hard to find a cause behind it. It could be he simply doesn't like something about your other dogs, and that makes him want to attack them. You have a couple of choices in this situation, one of which you probably will not like to hear. You can rehome to someone who doesn't have any other dogs. He will continue to attack your other dogs without provocation, and will likely end up seriously injuring one of them. You could also get hurt try to stop the fighting. If you don't want to rehome him, I would get into into training immediately with a professional behavioral expert. They may be able to help you with his aggression so he can live safely with your other dogs. You can ask your vet tomorrow for a referral to a behavioral expert.

Try separating them for a day or so, then taking them for a walk together. If it continues for more than a day or so, talk with your vet about anti-anxiety medications which can help tremendously with this sort of thing. Best wishes to you, Charlie, and Grey!

Poor Charlie! This is such a difficult situation and can be very worrisome. Good news is that a seizure itself will not cause a dog to die unless he has seizures back to back to back or for a really long time causing them to over heat. Unfortunately, there is no way for you to be with him all the time and no one can expect for you to do this. The best thing you can do is just watch for any abnormal behavior like disorientation, decreased appetite, lethargy, etc when you ARE with him. I would also do a seizure log stating the date of each seizure you see and how long the convulsing part of the seizure lasts. If they are happening frequently or starting to last longer each time, I would talk to your vet. Your vet may want to start him on an anti-seizure medication to prevent them. If he is only having the occasionally, most vets will not start them on anti-seizure medications because these too can have side effects on their liver. The only other thing I can suggest is to put up a video camera but this may not be a realistic thing to do. I hope this helps!
