Can a Lab with Addison's disease safely be outside in 30-degree cold?

Labradors are pretty big, hardy dogs. As long as they have boots to protect their feet from freezing they can probably tolerate at least a 30 Minute walk. However, I would not leave him out unsupervised in those temperatures. Best of luck in those cold temperatures! Thank you for using Pet Coach.

She has a fairly thick coat judging from the pictures so her body is most likely able to tolerate this temperature just fine. I hope this helps! Hello. Dogs can control there body temp quite a bit by how much air collects underneath the hair. Even short hairs can trap the air against the skin & keeps your pet warm like when you wear a puffy coat. As long as Rex seems happy outdoors & is not shivering, then he can stay out for quite a bit of time. But if you see shivering or he is pressed up against the house seeking warmth, bring him in. Anytime there is rain, or significant cold winds, especially if the temp outdoors is close to freezing, bring him indoors after just a short time outside. But if it is sunny, calm winds & temps are not particularly frigid, he can stay out for quite some time. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

It should be okay for dogs to swim if they want to, as long as it is sunny and they have access to dry bedding/towels. For the lab with arthritis, swimming is actually great exercise as it is low impact - just be careful with her getting in and out of the pool. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Addison's Disease cannot be cured, but it can often be managed with life-long medications. It does usually require frequent vet visits for monitoring in the future. However, it can be life-threatening if a dog is sick when it is first diagnosed (or the suspected diagnosis). Without aggressive treatment, dogs can easily die from dehydration and shock caused by the effects on their fluid volume. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Odie is super cute! If Odie is an outside dog then he needs shelter from the rain and the cold. Provide a dog house that is dry and protects from the wind, rain and snow (if you get snow). You can even look in to safe heat sources if it gets that cold in your area. I do not recommend not having shelter for outside dogs. He shouldn't get sick with proper shelter. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello, the Australian Shepherd dog is actually a herding working breed. It is not recognized as an arctic breed such as a Huskie. Therefore Aussies cold tolerance is not as good as an arctic breed. In general, if it is too cold outside for you, then its too cold outside for your dog. Their thick coat will help keep them warm some, however, it would not be ideal to keep your dog outside in 32 degree weather as this is close to freezing. Hope this helps and best of luck.
