Is my dog acting off after an allergic eye reaction and treatment?

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having this problem with Poppy. If your vet numbed the eye and examined it, then the numbing solution may be wearing off which may account for her eye being more irritated now. I have never had a dog have a problem with the fluorescein stain, so I think that is unlikely to be the problem. Dogs can have problems with some medications, so if your vet gave any of the antibiotic medication while in the office, I would contact them before giving more, but if they have not given her any in the office, then they should not be a problem to start at home. Either way, I would recommend contacting your vet, so they know what is going on with Poppy. There are some pain medications that can be given, so they may recommend adding those for Poppy. Yes, it could be an allergic reaction, it could also be an eye infection. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Poor Blue! That is quite a swollen face :-( It's a bit unclear what the question is here, but a swollen face is usually a sign of an allergic reaction, and it's typical to treat with antihistamines and/or steroids, so it sounds like your vet is on track. Most allergic reactions resolve within a few hours, but I have seen cases have symptoms continue to return like you're seeing with Blue as the medications wear off, sometimes up to nearly a week. It sounds like you're doing everything right continuing to bring her in so the vet can respond to the symptoms as they happen - I understand it's frustrating! Hopefully it resolves soon. I would be hesitant to link her current symptoms to the spay, since allergic reactions usually occur much faster, and if her swelling started 4 days after her spay, that seems unlikely to be related. She may have been stung by a bee or had an insect bite that triggered it - but you vet may discuss altering her medications if they think there might be an association. If the pinkness is on the outside of the eye (the skin around eye) and is puffy this could be the start of an allergic reaction to something in the environment, an insect bite or sting, or even a vaccine if any given in the last 24 hours. If this is the case you may notice the swelling progressing and in that case Bella Bear should see a veterinarian right away for injectable medication to help. If the redness is on the outside of the eye itself (the sclera or whites of the eye) this could be due to something irritating that had gotten into the eye or as part of an allergy to something in the environment. If this is the case I would prevent her from rubbing her eyes and you can flush with sterile saline or a lubricating over the counter drop such as genteal. If the pinkness persists or worsens I would have her evaluated by a veterinarian to see if there is a prescription ointment that may help. I don't think this has anything to do with the baby possum.

It looks like Millie may be having an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can be triggered by things in the environment, vaccines or insect bites and stings but it is often difficult to pinpoint exactly what caused the reaction. The tissue around the eyes and muzzle becomes swollen and hives can develop elsewhere on the body. Emergency treatment with injectable corticosteroids and antihistamines is necessary so I would recommend heading to an emergency veterinarian in your area.

It could also be that he has hurt himself. I would have him seen by a vet for this problem. Give his vet a call now to see when you can get him an appointment. In case he is suffering from allergies, give him an oatmeal bath now if you can't get him into the vet. This may help temporarily soothe his symptoms. Poor pup! Given this keeps happening when she is outside, I'm wondering if it is allergies. She may do well with a longer acting medication like a steroid, or a specific allergy medication like Apoquel. I'd make her an appointment with your vet to discuss these options. I hope this helps!
