Can I feed my dog 73/27 ground beef? Is the fat content too high?

I would not advise adding pork fat to Fierce's food, the high fat content may predispose him to gastrointestinal upset or possibly a painful condition called pancreatitis. Yes, that's fine. Most dogs tolerate beef well. If she vomits after eating it, or diarrhea is noted within three days, then she may not tolerate it well. This can happen either due to it being too rich, or a food allergy (not that common). This does have a fair amount of calories though, so I always reccomend you account for these types of treats by feeding a little less of their dog food. It can be ok in small amounts, but do not give Lily large amounts of it. Calves liver would be better as it has less fat that beef liver, but again in small amounts. No more than 5% of the total diet.

The only problem with that is that the hamburger is fatty, and too much fat in a dog's diet leads to pancreatitis. In my opinion, this wouldn't be a good treat to give Chloe. Instead, how about giving her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones)?? That would be a healthy treat for her to have :-)

Hi there. So sorry that Archie is having this issue. In all honesty, it is best to put him on prescription low fat diet as that is exactly what he needs. Pancreatitis is very serious. With each bout of pancreatitis the pancreas sustains more damage and can no longer work properly. Many dogs will end up with diabetes, cancer or severe digestive issues. You are FAR better off with the prescription diet instead of you guessing what to feed him. Talk to your vet about one of the prescription diets like Hill's i/d low fat (it comes in cans and dry food). Boiled chicken and rice is not bad but it is not a balanced diet. You are correct, the fat content should be between 6 and 10%. I would be shocked if you found that low of a fat percentage in any over the counter diet. Again, prescription diet is the way to go. No, that's extra fat and calories Walter does not need. The only food he really needs is his dog food. You can give him an hamburger patty as a very occasional treat, such as once a month. Best of luck.
