My dog is 4 weeks pregnant. When will I see changes? Is not eating normal?

Yes, it’s likely she is pregnant. Dogs can show no symptoms or some can be uncomfortable. The gestation period is 63 days. She should gain weight and get some mammary development. You can have an ultrasound done to confirm the pregnancy, or about a week before the due date an X-ray can show the number of pups. Vomiting and discharge are not normal symptoms of pregnancy in a dog and may indicate infection. I would not generally increase feeding guidelines until the last 2 weeks or if weight loss develops, the majority of energy demands for growth are the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and peak milk development. Obesity should be avoided as it can cause complications in itself

Often dogs will look bigger or smaller based on if they have just eaten, and what position they are lying in, so I wouldn't worry too much about how 'big she looks'. I would make sure you are feeding her a good high-quality puppy food, canned food is best to make sure she has good water intake. Also, make sure she has a nesting area where she can go when she whelps (gives birth). If she seems to be straining and unable to pass a puppy, weak, tremoring, scratching at her face, or acting abnormal, please haver her seen by a vet. Best of luck with Poppy and her puppies.

Hello. If she got pregnant 41 days ago, she may not start showing significantly for another week. However, if she first tied 41 days ago, & then tied at a second breeding, then I might start counting from the second tie vs. the first. If she is only carrying 1-2 puppies, it may be another week or so before the fetuses are large enough to start filling the abdomen. Just in case she is pregnant, switch her to a good quality puppy food & increase the amount. You do not want her to go into the last part of her pregnancy or start nursing puppies when she is so skinny. You might want to have your vet take a look at Ali to see why she is so skinny & make sure she is healthy enough to carry & successfully raise her litter. Poor girl! I would offer her a home cooked meal of plain boiled chicken and rice to see if this helps to entice her to eat. If she after a few days of being on vitamins and she still isn't acting right then I would contact your ve to do additional diagnostics. If your vet hasn't already I would ask them to do a fecal to check for intestinal parasites and blood work to make sure everything else looks ok. If she is close to the end of her pregnancy this could all be normal in preparation for labor. A lot of dogs will have a decrease in activity and appetite in the last 3-5 days of pregnancy. The normal gestation period is 62-63 days. I hope this helps!

Basically at this stage you should see weight gain, increased appetite and her nipples should begin to get larger at this point. if you do not see any of those it is very likely that she is not pregnant.
