My dog mated. Now she's not eating and less active. Is she pregnant?

Basically at this stage you should see weight gain, increased appetite and her nipples should begin to get larger at this point. if you do not see any of those it is very likely that she is not pregnant.

Hello. Dogs are pregnant an average of 63 days. By the 4th week, you should notice some roundness to her abdomen, possibly some slight swelling to the nipples, but the biggest changes will occur the last 3 weeks of her pregnancy. So you should really start seeing some changes in another 7-10 days. If she is otherwise well, missing a meal now & then is probably OK. You can have an ultrasound done at 28 days and/or X-rays find at 50 days to confirm pregnancy. Dogs are pregnant for 60-63 days. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, if Princess tied 3 times she is very likely pregnant. Based on your pictures her belly and mammary glands are enlarged. Milk can show up as early as 1 week before labor to right before. Dogs are pregnant 60-63 days so if 12/25 was when you saw them tied then I would expect her to be due 2/22. You can schedule an appointment with your Vet soon to have an X-rays taken to confirm pregnancy and the number of puppies. I would get the whelping box together and start puppy food. Since it has been at least one month both since the breeding, your veterinarian should be able to confirm pregnancy via bloodwork, palpation or abdominal xrays or ultrasound. It may be a bit early to put a number to the litter yet. You may need to wait another couple weeks before the pups can be clearly discernable on x-ray. Other causes for Lina's lack of weight gain can be diagnosed after an exam. She should be eating a good quality puppy food from now, if she is pregnant, until she weans the litter.

Puppy heart beats can be detected on ultrasound at 28 days gestation and we can see their skeletons on X-rays around 50 days. She could be pregnant or she could be suffering from a false pregnancy which occurs after they have a heat cycle from a hormonal imbalance. This imbalance causes the body to think it is pregnant when it actually isn't. The dog can develop mammary glands, produce milk, nest, carry stuffed animals around like babies, act anxious. It resolves with in 2-3 months. I would make an appointment with your Vet to see if you can confirm or deny pregnancy. I wish you the best!

Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!
