Why is my Dachshund walking slow, bloated, and stomach hard?

Sadie may be having a bulging or ruptured disc issue in her back. She needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately because the sooner this issue is addressed the better chance she has for a full recovery. Disc disease is very painful and can result in paralysis if not treated. Depending on the severity of the disease Sadie may just need prescription medication and rest or if the condition is more severe she may need surgery for a full recovery. Please remember there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs so you will need to have these prescribed by a veterinarian. Again, the sooner Sadie is treated the better chance for a full recovery so please take her to see a veterinarian right away. This position can be a sign of a stomach ache or abdominal pain. This can be from many things including constipation, an intestinal blockage, stomach ulcer etc. please monitor if she’s eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally. If not then please bring her in for an exam. They will check her over to see if they can find the reason for these symptoms, and may recommend abdominal X-rays and lab tests. Poor pup! From your description, it sounds like something is seriously wrong. Trouble walking could be caused by arthritis, a neurologic problem like a stroke or herniated disc in the spine, or generalized weakness due to a severe illness of some kind. A bloated abdomen can be caused by GDV (gastric dilatation volvulus, or "bloat"), which is a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with air and twists on itself; other possible causes would include congestive heart failure, an abdominal tumor, liver failure, or internal bleeding. These signs are indicative of a severe, possibly life-threatening problem that needs immediate veterinary care, so I would recommend taking your dog to an emergency vet right away. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what can be done to help her.

Poor girl. She may have an overly full stomach or potentially an enlarged organ. It is really hard to say for sure without an exam. Pets this small don't get bloat, so that is not a concern. Based on her symptoms of just seeming uncomfortable, I would let her rest tonight and then if she still seems out of sorts in the morning, it is best to get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to feel her belly to try and pinpoint the source of pain and discomfort so that we best know how to treat this moving forward. She sounds uncomfortable but stable for now and so the best thing is to make her comfortable with nice soft bedding let her try and rest until morning. If she will tolerate a warm Epsoms salt soaking bath, then you can also try that. However, if she does seem to pace and develop more symptoms (vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, etc) tonight, then its best to take her to an ER vet for further evaluation. Poor Bella! If she has a previous paw injury, it could be that it's hurting her again leading to the extreme lethargy. Whimpering would also be another cause of pain. She's also a dachshund, and they are a breed that tends to have a problems with their back, and that could be another problem. Keep her on cage rest tonight, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, then I would take her into the vet for a check. I hope this helps!

I am very sorry to hear about Katiana. I would recommend getting her to the vet right away with these symptoms. Many different things can cause the belly to appear bloated, including a torsion/twisting of the stomach which is painful and life threatening. We can also have bloating due to fluid buildup in the belly, a blockage of the intestinal tract, and more. In some cases eating something new and rich in flavor can cause pancreatitis which can cause a very painful belly. All of these things require treatment by a veterinarian. The vet will examine Katiana and may recommend testing like an x-ray to help determine what the cause of her symptoms is and how to treat her.

Two main things i would be suspecting, the first being a uterine infection which is an emergency situation, if this will be diagnosed she will need to have an emergency surgery done in the next 48 hours. the other possibility is IVDD (vertebral disk disease) which will require intensive medical treatment for pain as well as cage rest. you must take her to the vet ASAP.
