Can my 2-month-old Corgi puppy hold it overnight in his crate?

Just give it more time. He is getting used to a new place away from constant company of other puppies. It may take several more days or even weeks for him to learn to sleep through the night. You may need to take Leo outside at least once in the middle of the night. A good rule of thumb for how long puppies can "hold it" is the age in months plus 1. Leo is 2 months old, so you should only expect him to hold it for 3 or 4 hours. Set an alarm and wake up to take him outside on a leash. No play time, no talking, just outside and walk in circles until he goes then straight back into his kennel. Good luck! Puppies are a lot of work but so worth it!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, personally I think you can. That is part of training. As long as you can sleep that is what I would do if he was mine. But since he is only 6 weeks old he may not be able to hold it all night. So set your alarm to get up twice overnight to take him out and to check on him. If he starts chewing up the blankets or pee pads then you will have to take them out. Part of house training is getting up overnight until they can hold it that long. Most people remove the water before bedtime to prevent urinating overnight. I wish you the best!

I would try putting Co co in a crate at night. Keep in mind she's quite young, and it will take time for her to adjust to being in a new home away from her mother and siblings. It's truly like having a newborn baby in the home! But the good news is that puppies will get better at sleeping at night faster than babies. If you are comfortable with it, you can have her sleep with you at night in your bed. That might make her feel more comfortable. I hope you get some sleep!

They are adorable! At four months of age, 10 hours is too long for Coco and Chaz to stay in their crate. Their bladder isn't big enough to hold their urine that long, and they should be let out to potty every three to four hours. I would consider hiring someone to stop by at least once or twice a day to let them out to potty if you can't leave work to let them out. Dogs should be in crates no longer than eight hours, even if they are older. I hope this helps!

It will take time to fully train Tank. If he is only 2 months old he can really only hold his urine for about 3 hours. If he starts to whine in his crate at night I would recommend walking him when he starts to whine. When you take him outside I would recommend walking him on a leash. This is because puppies are easily distracted. Once he urinates +/- defecates he can have off leash time in the backyard. With crate training remember anytime you cannot have your eyes on him 100% of the time he should be in the crate. Also if you take Tank outside and he doesn't go to the bathroom I always recommend putting Tank back in the crate for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes take Tank back outside to try again. It takes time and patience to train a puppy, but if you are consistent it will pay off. Hello. Crate training takes time, so keep persevering. That being said, expect dogs to be able to hold their bladders the number of months they are in terms of hours, as a general rule. They can hold it a little longer at night. Expect to have to wake up in the middle of the night to let him outside. Bring him outside, let him pee, then right back inside into the crate. No playing or else he will get used to that. The whining and barking should subside soon. HAve fun with him!

It is really a family decision on when to actually test the waters with this one. I always say if they can hold it for 8 hours (about 7 months of age) then give it a try. I would leave the cage as an option for Korbyn though. The cage is supposed to feel like a safe place so still giving them access to it is a good idea.
