My 8-month Corgi weighs 29 lbs. Is that healthy? How much to feed?

The best time to switch them over to adult food is between 10 and 12 months of age. If they seem to be getting too heavy, just cut back the amount of puppy food you are feeding currently. Blue Buffalo, in general, is very high in calories so if you stick with this brand they will likely get very little to eat in order to maintain a healthy weight.

This will depend on his activity level, weight and BCS (body condition score). He can likely eat anywhere from 1/2 cup to 1 cup daily, divided into several meals. Since dogs thrive on routine, feed him at the same time(s) every day. Prepare his food and leave it down for 20 minutes before picking it up whether he has eaten or not. Repeat this at the next mealtime. Adjust the amount of food, up or down, based on his appetite and BCS. Your veterinarian can show you how to assess Leonard's body condition score. You can use the amount of food recommended on the bag as a starting point. If he is active or losing weight, increase the amount of food offered. I’m not a fan of a raw diet. It can harbor bacteria that can cause diarrhea in your dog, and you also can get sick from uncooked raw food. Corgis are prone to being overweight so I recommend a good quality diet dry food, with added vegetables. I love Hills metabolic diet. It’s very tasty and will help maintain his optimal weight. Without seeing Buddy in person (who is very handsome by the way!), I can't say if he's overweight or not because he's a mix breed dog. They can really vary in weight depending on their build and genetics. Check out this link on checking the body condition score in dogs, and that will give you an idea if he's overweight or not. I recommend to feed all dogs twice a day. It helps to keep the metabolism running and can decrease risk for stomach torsion and bloat. Adult dogs can be fed once a day but most prefer two smaller feedings. Puppies should eat twice a day because they are still developing and have faster metabolism than adults. Yes this sounds normal for growing puppies. Please be careful not to overfeed them as corgis tend to get very overweight and it is not good for their backs. Just because they "act" hungry doesn't mean you should feed them. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
