Is my 3-year-old Chihuahua Corgi mix dog too heavy at 16.2 lbs?

This really depends on the size and build of the dog - with mixed-breed dogs like this, genetics can be very unpredictable! :) Instead of focusing so much on how many pounds he weighs, I would recommend looking at his body condition. Ideally, you should be able to feel his ribs fairly easily when you run your hands down his sides, and he should have a visible waistline or "abdominal tuck" just behind the rib cage. If you can't feel his ribs or he doesn't have a waistline, he probably needs to lose some weight. If his ribs and hip bones are visibly sticking out, he's probably a bit too thin and should gain a bit.

If you can get him down to 18 pounds, that would be a good start. Most male Chugs weigh about 15 to 18 pounds. Monitor his weight as well as his BCS (body condition score). Your veterinarian can show you how to do this. You want Duke to lose weight but not too much. He should have a nice layer of fat over his ribs. He should also have a wait when viewed from above and a gentle abdominal tuck when viewed from the side. He shouldn't look like a square or a rectangle

Loki actually looks like he's a nice healthy weight! He has a very noticeable "abdominal tuck" just behind his ribcage, which is a good sign. As long as his waistline is visible from the top as well, and you can feel his ribs fairly easily when you run your hands over his sides, I wouldn't worry - he looks great on his current diet to me :)

Chihuahuas weight varies greatly during puppyhood and there is no specific weight chart that we use in practice. Instead we use a more accurate assessment of your puppy's weight, which is his/her body condition score (BCS) where 3/5 or 5/9 is considered an ideal weight. Your vet should be able to tell what the body condition score is easily by simply examining your pet. Also in puppies, unless you see vomiting or diarrhea symptoms, and they are getting feed the proper amount 3x a day, then chances are your pet is of proper weight. Also feel free to share a photo of your pet via consultation request, and we can tell you without a doubt whether your pup is proper weight or not.

It sounds like you are doing just fine. Dogs, especially corgis, need to be kept lean so it's good that you are being vigilant. Dogs are never too thin unless you can see all their ribs. Bernie is very cute! From the photos he looks pretty normal but it is difficult to tell if a furry dog is a good weight or not without being able to put your hands on the pet. Run your fingers over Bernie’s rib cage. They should feel like the back of your own hand. If they feel more like the palm of your hand, he is probably carrying a little too much weight. If they feel more like running your fingers over your knuckles then he is likely too thin. Every pet has a different metabolism and all foods have different calorie content. When in doubt if his weight is good or not, have him checked out by his veterinarian. Congratulations on adding him to your family! What a cutie! It's hard to tell from the picture, but she looks like she's at an ideal weight. Rather than tell you an exact number she should weigh, I think it's beneficial to explain what to look for to know that her body condition is ideal. At an ideal weight, you should be able to run your fingers over her sides and feel the indents between the ribs without pushing in. If you see her ribs, she is too thin. Looking down on her when she's standing, she should have a little indent in her waist. Monitor both of these things to make sure she maintains an ideal weight.
