How to safely clean carpets after pet with hookworms poops?

I can't blame you for not wanting to pick up the worms on your carpet, but unfortunately, that's the only way to get the job done. Consider putting on disposable gloves or using tongs to pick them up to dispose of them in the trash. I can't clearly see the worms in the picture that you've posted to determine which type of worms (roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, etc.) that you are seeing. Roundworms resemble spaghetti, tapeworms resemble grains of rice, and hookworms look like longer, flat noodles with an "o" shaped mouth. Since Chance obviously has worms, be sure that he has been dewormed recently. Pyrantel pamoate ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1430 ) can be used to treat both roundworms and hookworms, and praziquantel ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=35693 ) can be used to treat tapeworms. Try to disinfect your carpet as well as possible (bleach would be ideal, but would obviously ruin your carpet) with a steam cleaner to kill any eggs that may be left behind, because Chance could become reinfected depending on the parasite present. Steam cleaning and shampooing the areas of the carpet that were in contact with any feces will help get rid of any eggs. You should disinfect any hard surfaces with a disinfectant cleaner. You can also disinfect the litter pan and all food/water bowls.

Similarly, there isn't any need to wear gloves when petting Lady or wipe the floor. Humans are most commonly infected from soil that is contaminated with hookworm larvae, so it would not be recommended to go outside barefoot to help prevent infection. I would make sure that your cats and your puppy are both up to date on their deworming treatments. If they aren't, you will need to get treatments for them from the vet. As for cleaning the house, I would shampoo the carpets, and scrub any hardwood floors.

1. The only concern for human beings is the transmission of certain tapeworms. These are transmitted by fleas and incidental ingestion of the flea can cause infection. I would not be worried about roundworm, but fleas need to be treated as well as gastrointestinal worms. Normal hygiene precautions must be followed though (wash your hands). 2. You can pet him without problems. 3. Eggs can be present of course and usually bleach is enough to disinfect the area appropriately.

Hookworms are commonly spread by fecal/oral route. Clean the litter box daily and wash your hands afterwards to minimize contamination. it is best to wash bedding and clean the floors just to be safe.

You need to clean up the stools as soon as he goes to prevent contamination of the environment. Your son should be ok as long as he isn’t eating the poop.
