Puppy has worms. Can eggs spread? How to protect my child and home?

If you have treated Dot with a dewormer for roundworms from the pet store, are cleaning up her fecal material and washing hands, then you are doing about everything you can do. That being said, fresh fecal material is not infectious. It takes 30 days for the eggs to become infectious. So if you have not had Dot this long, it is not a concern, but that is why you don't want to leave the feces laying around. As long as you clean up the feces and use good hygiene (washing your hands and avoid putting hands in the mouth after touching your pet or any live worms), then you are less likely to infest yourself. Clean up the poop quickly and don’t let your pet around other dogs or cats to avoid transmission until you can get Coco treated. As long as you pick up his stool and cleaning up after any accidents that usually prevents any infections in children. Kids can also get it from eating contaminated dirt. As long as he's been dewormed and you clean up after Peso you should be fine having him in a small area of the house. I would wash your children's hands after touching him also. If Stella has had some accidents in the house, there could be fecal matter in the carpet, and the eggs can survive for some time in the environment. I would make sure to clean up any poop in the home and yard, and disinfect the carpet where she had accidents. Practice proper hygiene, always using gloves to clean up any feces and washing your hands thoroughly afterwards. If you practice good hygiene, don't allow your grandson to touch the feces or ingest contaminated soil, and disinfect the carpet, that will significantly decrease any risk of transmission. I would recommend deworming him tomorrow and as a precaution, deworming all other pets and humans in the household is rcommended following the introduction of a new pup. Worm eggs need to be ingested in order to be transmitted so hands should be washed after handling the pup (at all times) and especially before eating. I would never recommend allowing a dog to lick people on the face as there is a small risk they may have worm eggs (or bacteria) in and around their mouth which they could transmit to people
