Why is my Chihuahua puppy bleeding from his bottom but not in pain?

My Chihuahua puppy named boss is bleading from his bottom.But doesn't look in pain.please help

Hello!

I'm sorry to hear that Boss is bleeding.
There's a couple of things I'm concerned it could be. Dogs have two anal glands, one on either side of their anus. They can become impacted and abscessed, which sometimes causes a bloody discharge. If this is the case, he may need to have the infection flushed out thoroughly under sedation and take a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.

If Boss is experiencing any changes in defecation, such as constipation or diarrhea, this can sometimes irritate the colon and cause bleeding as well. This would be solved by finding the cause of and treating the underlying constipation or diarrhea.

Serious problems, such as blood clotting disorders or cancers, are unfortunately possibilities as well. However, I don't think they are very likely due to his young age.

I would recommend having Boss seen by a vet. They can do a physical exam and hopefully find an easily fixable problem and make a plan to get him feeling better.

Anal glands are possibly infected and severely inflamed. Antibiotics are likely to be needed and it is possible that pus and infection is still inside the glands.
In some cases an underlying tumor of the anal glands is seen and that must be checked by your local vet.

It can sometimes be difficult to feel this with a finger during a recital exam. but if it is close enough to the anal opening, it might be accessible. Puppy bleeding after shots: Is it normal or should I see a vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not normal or expected. This is unlikely to be from the injection site. It could have been from his nails or paws which may not be easily evident. It could of course be from anywhere else. If you notice where it is coming from (like coming from the urine) or it continues to happen and you cannot find out where it is coming from, I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. They could perform a very thorough examination to look for a source of bleeding and perform any diagnostics like a urinalysis if needed. Hopefully this is nothing concerning. Chihuahua straining to poop, bloody anus. Is it just constipation?

The constipation may be the result of an anal sac infection or rectal tumor. It sounds like Roscoe is in pain also. Please take him in for an exam and an enema to relieve the constipation and they can also check his anal glands and do a rectal palpation to check for a mass. Roscoe may need pain medication and antibiotics if they find an infection. They can then discuss his diet and whether he needs additional fiber added to his diet. I like to add a tablespoon of plain canned pumpkin to each feeding for added fiber. This does sound like a painful and possibly serious problem so please take Roscoe in soon. Bite wounds are serious because these can easily result in more trauma than what seems apparent and also in an infection. If there was evidence of blood before, I am concerned that there could have been significant trauma. Why is my Chihuahua straining with watery blood, no blood in stool?

Good that the full workup last week was normal. Isabella may be straining to pass hard stool, and I'd recommend adding a bit of fiber like pumpkin to her diet, or ask your vet for a stool softener. She may be straining so hard that she is causing bleeding in her little anus area, or her anal glands could have some bloody discharge. If she is eating and drinking and not acting painful this is a good sign that nothing major is going on. I like Royal Canin Fiber diet for these issues as a long-term diet.

My dog has diarrhea and bleeding from his rear. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! To treat diarrhea I recommend fast Otis for 12-24 hours. Do not limit water unless vomiting. Then restart feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per day until 2 days of normal stools. If the diarrhea doesn't improve he should be seen by your Vet. As for the bleeding butt-I would need more information. If you mean there is blood in the stool then the above may help. But if there is blood in the stool Otis ideally needs antibiotics which you can get from your Vet. If there is a wound on his butt or near his butt then he needs to see a Vet. I hope this helps
