How much chicken and rice for a spayed dog not eating hard food?

How much chicken and rice you would have to give depends on which cut of chicken you are giving him and what type of rice. Canned food is recommended only because it is easier to eat after oral surgery. You can soak her dry food until it is soft. The general guideline for an adult dog is 1 cup of food per 30lbs body weight divided into two meals. This is for maintenance, not weight loss/gain. Using this formula, Hazel would need just under 1/3 cup daily split into two meals. It doesn't sound, or look like, a lot of food but she is a tiny dog and doesn't need many calories.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would feed 2 cups (75% rice to 25% boiled chicken breast or hamburger) per day. Feed the bland diet until 2 normal stools. Basically you just have to check how many calories the meat you are feeding him has and calculate his daily intake from there. Great question! In general, there should be no reason that you would need to change her diet after her spay. She may not be as hungry as usual this evening since she may be sore and still a bit sleepy from the anesthesia, so I would suggest feeding her about half of her normal dinner tonight. Starting the following day, it should be fine for her to go back to her normal amount of food :)

Occasionally after spaying, dogs will have no appetite for the first 12-24 hours. This may be due to the lingering effects of [anesthesia](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pets-and-anesthesia-everything-you-need-to-know) and/or some post operative discomfort. In the meantime, take a look at her incision site. If it is red, swollen and hot to the touch, she needs to see your veterinarian right away as these symptoms may indicate infection. Hi there. I calculate Diesel’s Caloric need at about 1300 calories per day. On average a cup of white rice is about 200 calories and a cup of boiled chicken breast is around 200 calories as well, so if he is getting 3 cups of each a day that is about 1200 calories, so he needs just a bit more.
