My Cane Corso puppy has extra paws. Will she need expensive vet care?

Oh my goodness, Honey is so cute! What an adorable puppy! I recommend having her seen by a vet for this problem and to have x-rays done on that leg. It could be there was a disruption to the growth plate of her radius or ulna causing one of those bones to stop growing while the other continues to grown and causes the deformity you are seeing. This can be corrected surgically, which is why I recommend having her seen by a vet. With the x-rays, the vet can determine what is causing the deformity and can discuss surgical options with you. Hello. Without x-rays it is impossible to know what is actually going on in the paw. It is difficult to say if this will bother her more as she matures, but you really do not have too many options. Perhaps a surgery to fuse & stabilize the paw may be helpful, but will not eliminate all pain & discomfort & you certainly would not amputate the leg unless she began to self-mutilate the paw. So, unless you can have the paw x-rayed, I would take a wait & see how she does. If she over does it when you play with her, then make sure she rests the leg. Otherwise, I would try to avoid pain relieves in such a young dog. Perhaps, once her bones are finished growing & maturing, she may actually do quite well. Hello. It is hard to tell how this pup might do as it grows. If there are no pads, & the pup has to walk basically on just skin, this can definitely cause pain & lameness, even with the intact metacarpal pad. If he manages just to walk on this, he may be comfortable, but I would imagine his gait will be off or awkward. In the long term, he may do really well wearing a protective boot on the foot. Only time will tell. An x-ray of the foot may give more information. And yes. This defect in various forms, happens in many breeds. She is so cute! This is likely just a normal malformation. I would make sure she is getting good nutrition and this make correct itself. If it doesn't, she will likely have a normal life and not have issues with this. If she is having trouble walking, I would have your vet take a look at her to see what options there are for correcting this. I hope this helps !

I'd have Luca checked out by a vet and have x-rays done to make sure there isn't a growth plate abnormality causing this turning of the paws. If there is one, the vet can discuss treatment options which may include surgery. Best of luck.

Hello, Based on your description, Loki may have what we refer to as a valgus deformity or angular limb deformity. It is a bone malformation some pets are born with, and it can be corrected with surgery. Follow up with your veterinarian to discuss options

A full assess ment and xrays would be needed in order to determine if a brace is likely to help but if the condition is ongoing and the bnes have already moved it may be more painful to adjust them (it may help support the ligaments if there is no underlying bne issue).
