Is Caesar wet dog food healthy to mix with high-quality kibble?

Cesars and Beneful are more medium grade diets. Dogs love the taste but it's not necessarily the highest quality proteins and there's lot of fillers. The Royal Canin is a very high quality and the food I recommend to mainly feed Azumi. I recommend to feed mainly dry food but you can add in some canned food for a treat or even in every meal if you like. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, thank you for using PetCoach. I would work on weaning Cherokee off of the Cesars as soon as you can. That food is very high in fat and not a very healthy food. You don't say how old she is now. If under a year, I would suggest a puppy or growth formula. If adult, feed an adult maintenance food. Purina ProPlan, Science Diet or Iams are all very good brands. Start slowly transitioning her by mixing 75% current food and 25% new diet and switch very slowly to the new food over the course of several weeks. If she is otherwise healthy, a healthy dog is not going to starve themselves to death. But in the long run she will be much healthier on a high quality dog food. Do not give people food or table food at all either. I personally don't feel Caesar is one of the best supermarket brands of food. I would try him on Purina One, which is the best of the supermarket brands in my opinion. Best sure to do the switch slowly to avoid GI upset. I hope this helps!

Mixing canned food in with his kibble is perfectly fine, but I would not recommend feeding Beneful. If you like the Purina brand of products, their ProPlan line is far superior. Other good options are Science Diet or Royal Canin canned foods.

Hi and thanks for posting. You shouldn't need to change the food frequently- in fact doing so can create a very picking and finicky eater. Ceaser's is lower quality food. You might opt for something a little more higher quality such as Purina Pro Plan, Hill's Science diet or Wellness brand formula. However, there are causes for decreased eating such as tooth infections or periodontal disease that can make eating painful. Other causes can include kidney or liver disease, pancreatic diseases, and endocrine disorders among others that can lead to decreased appetite and/or weight loss. I would recommend an exam with your veterinarian soon along with some basic blood work to start to determine if there are any underlying issues. I hope this helps!

Canidae is an OK brand, but seems to be more about marketing unnecessary ingredients rather than tailoring food to the dogs specific life stage. It is nutritionally adequate though, which is the most important thing. I would have to evaluate the specific product in question to have more of an opinion about it. The truth about most of these foods is that their claims usually amount to nothing more than that of a fad diet (i.e. paleo or atkins) and are not supported by sufficient evidence (even though they will make it sound like it is). As scientifically trained practitioners, us vets prefer to offer evidenced based treatment and the same goes for feeding suggestions. The most important thing on that bag is a tiny bit of writing under the guaranteed analysis called the AAFCO statement. This statement tells you what actual research went into making the product.
