Why is there blood on my 4-month-old puppy's chew toys? Is it normal?

Puppies are in the process of teething from 12 weeks to 6-7 months of age, so it's completely normal to see an occasional baby tooth with a bloody root on the floor during this time :) Often, there will also be small streaks of blood on toys or chew items - this is because the pup's gums are bleeding a little, and is also normal. All of his adult teeth should be coming in within the next 2-4 weeks, so after that the problem should resolve on its own.

It’s possible that he lost a baby tooth which causes the blood on his toy. It could also be the cause for the sudden increase in chewing. As far as the clicking, I am not sure what this could be. It could be his jaw or a baby tooth hung up somewhere. If it is continuing to do this, I would have your vet take a look at him to make sure everything looks okay. i hope this helps!

Jasper will be losing his baby teeth for about another 6 weeks (until he is 6 months old). His adult teeth are currently pushing out his baby teeth, so his gums are more sensitive and easier to bleed right now. If the bleeding continues after his adult teeth are all in, I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine his gums to make sure they are healthy. Good luck! Hi Dilan, It is quite normal for a puppy's gums to bleed when they are teething and chewing on things. Gums can bleed more easy with gum disease, but a puppy that age would not have gum disease, so need to worry about that right now. I hope that helps and all is well with Toby.

This is most likely bleeding from the gums, which is not a serious problem. Dogs tend to naw-away slowly at these bones. When they do this, they rub their gums against the bone, which causes them to bleed - much like the way our gums can bleed when flossing. Occasionally, it can cut the gums; but again, these are usually not too serious and heal quickly. It would be good to have a look in her mouth and see if there are any glaring cuts or abnormalities. This is easier to do with two people, where one holds Bella still while opening her mouth, while the other shines a light into the mouth and inspects. If anything is of concern, then you can take a picture and post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach again, or can schedule and appointment with a vet. If nothing concerning is seen and Bella seems to be OK, then no need to worry and it's likely that she will bleed again when chewing this bone. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.

Hachi is adorable! Most dogs do stop teething by 6 months, but certain dogs may take up to 8-10 months for the adult teeth to fully erupt. While the teeth erupt through the gums, it is normal for their to be a small amount of blood. To teach Hachi that biting is not okay, I recommend saying "no!" immediately when he starts biting. You should then ignore Hachi, and only resume playing when he is calm. You can also try a spray bottle with water to wet Hachi's face if the biting continues. If her appetite is decreased from this then I would have it checked. At her age she may be teething and loosing some baby teeth which can cause blood but puppies are also known for eating things they aren't supposed to and she may have injured her gums. If she is eating and acting fine, then you can monitor it for 24 hours to see if there are any changes.
