Is 14kg a normal and healthy weight for my 10.5-month-old beagle?

I’m not sure about the UK but breeders associations like American Kennel Club want the ideal female beagle to be about 9-10kg. A 6 month old who is currently 7.5 kgs should achieve that by a year or so of age. That being said, I do see a huge number of beagles who are more like 15-17kgs which may make your Ziva girl look petite. But not to worry, if the vet says she checks out ok, her weight seems perfectly fine to me. Best wishes to you and Ziva!

I recommend googling Purina body condition scoring chart to determine if Aura is too thin. A score of 4-5/9 is ideal with ribs palpable with minimal or no excess fat covering, a waist easily noted when viewed from above and an abdominal tuck is evident from the side. Puppies should usually be on a puppy chow until 11-12 months of age. Good luck!

You can consider increasing his daily activity with regular walks and activities such as playing fetch. Also, you can consider a weight management diet. Yes she is probably slightly overweight, you can start by changing her food to a lower calorie diet (could be from the same brand), you need to be very strict regarding the quantity of food you are giving her daily (as instructed on the food label). if it doesn't help she will then need to be put on a prescription diet for weight loss. the tit sag is normal, it might not go back to the previous state completely but will get much better with time.

Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. Rather than a particular weight, we want to go for an ideal body condition score. Now with young puppies (just like kids) they are growing and the body condition scoring doesn't matter as much, but we still don't want her to be very overweight.
