No, it is not possible to lepto from a vaccine. i would need more information regarding your dog and his condition such as how old he is, when did it started, what treatment has he received and what treatment is he on at the moment. i would also need to see his recent blood test to understand the severity of the situation.

I'm sorry Sadie has lepto! Recovery often takes two to four weeks, and because it is such a serious disease that wipes out a dog physically, it will take longer to see any kind of improvement. I would give it at least two weeks, and if you still aren't seeing any kind of improvement, I would take her back into the vet. Please keep in mind that having lepto doesn't make her immune to future reinfection, so when she recovers from this and is health again, I would get her vaccinated against it.

I am sorry Sabastian is sick. Lepto would be my main concern in a dog with abnormal liver and kidney values. In-house tests for lepto can sometimes have false negatives, and I am sure that is why your vet is still treating with doxycycline. Increased drinking (and so increased urination) is common in pets with urinary dysfunction, such as with kidney disease. It may take several days of treatment before you can see a positive response.

Certainly with values as elevated as these are I am concerned about the kidney impairment due to this infection. Her protein is now on the decline as well which indicates further that her kidneys are now leading to a protein loss. Winter really needs to be hospitalized on continuous 24 hour IV fluids to hep reduce these levels and continue the antibiotic IV therapy until she responds as well as anti-vomiting medications to keep her comfortable. This infection does not respond right away in every case but it is very important that she receive adequate IV fluid therapy and antibiotics. I hope Winter gets better soon. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach, I am sorry to hear of Cooper's diagnosis. This can be very hard to say without seeing Cooper first. The prognosis does depend on if the disease was caught early or late, and what treatments Cooper is currently receiving. Younger animals generally fair a bit worse with a leptospirosis infection than older animals. Typically, prognosis is better if caught early and not so good if caught late in the game as the leptospirosis bacteria can cause organ damage in late or advanced stages. If you are referring to the infection leptospirosis, then yes this can be cured though it normally requires a long course of therapy and patients unfortunately can die from this condition if not treated appropriately and in a timely fashion. Some patients need to be in the hospital if they are doing poorly most of the time when the liver is severely affected. Good luck and have a great day!

I can certainly understand being so worried about Hunter. Leptospirosis has a good prognosis if it is caught early and the animal is kept under intensive care the vet hospital. You are doing exactly the right thing by having him stay in the vet hospital, and he will be getting the best care there. Because I can't see him in person, I can't say his prognosis but it is a good thing your vet has good hope he will be fine. The vet would tell you if he had a poor chance. It's ok to be worried and not matter what anyone tells you, you are going to keep worrying about Hunter until he's finally healthy and released from the hospital. Check in with the vet daily, and I have fingers crossed he will be ok!
