My puppy has severe lepto and organ damage. What's his survival chance?

I'm so sorry to hear that Oreo has leptospirosis. Fortunately, most dogs (80-90%) do very well with treatment and fully recover. Dogs that are sick from leptospirosis should start to improve quickly once they are started on antibiotics, so if Oreo is not starting to feel better within 24 hours (or feels worse at any point), be sure to contact your veterinarian in case he needs additional treatment. Certainly with values as elevated as these are I am concerned about the kidney impairment due to this infection. Her protein is now on the decline as well which indicates further that her kidneys are now leading to a protein loss. Winter really needs to be hospitalized on continuous 24 hour IV fluids to hep reduce these levels and continue the antibiotic IV therapy until she responds as well as anti-vomiting medications to keep her comfortable. This infection does not respond right away in every case but it is very important that she receive adequate IV fluid therapy and antibiotics. I hope Winter gets better soon. I can certainly understand being so worried about Hunter. Leptospirosis has a good prognosis if it is caught early and the animal is kept under intensive care the vet hospital. You are doing exactly the right thing by having him stay in the vet hospital, and he will be getting the best care there. Because I can't see him in person, I can't say his prognosis but it is a good thing your vet has good hope he will be fine. The vet would tell you if he had a poor chance. It's ok to be worried and not matter what anyone tells you, you are going to keep worrying about Hunter until he's finally healthy and released from the hospital. Check in with the vet daily, and I have fingers crossed he will be ok!

If you are referring to the infection leptospirosis, then yes this can be cured though it normally requires a long course of therapy and patients unfortunately can die from this condition if not treated appropriately and in a timely fashion. I'm sorry to hear that Cooper has parvo! You did the right thing by taking him to the vet as soon as you noticed a problem. I'm glad he's currently hospitalized for treatment. Parvo is a serious illness and there are no guarantees... but in general, older puppies like Cooper tend to fare better than younger pups. Since you were able to get him started on treatment right away, he has a fairly good chance of surviving. I hope he's able to pull through. <3

Dogs do not always die from lepto but there will be those dogs that are quite sick and cannot make it. I would take her back into the vet immediately to get intensive care with them there including IV fluids and injectable medications to try to save her. I hope this helps.

I am so sorry that Soju isn't doing well, and I sincerely apologize that we did not get to your question sooner. I suspect that Soju has turned a corner for better or worse by now, but based on the blood test results you posted and on the information you gave, I am very concerned that he was sick enough that he wasn't likely to survive. We don't often see infectious hepatitis in the US because it's widely vaccinated for, and in in 15 years of practice I have not seen a case. I also cannot find a survival rate to pass on to you, though when they are as sick as Soju, based on the blood work and his very young age I suspect he's got less than a 25% chance of survival. Having said that, if he has made it through the past couple of days and if he is showing some improvement, by all means continue treating him, as he may be one of the lucky ones.
