Why is my 8-week-old puppy whining so much? I'm going nuts!

One thing that can help is taking him for long walks and playing with him often. Another thing that may help is getting him plenty of toys that he can play with instead of whining. Puppies will bark or whine due to hunger, fear, boredom, pain, infection, if too cold/hot or if they have to go outside. Check to make sure he or she is not experiencing any of the above. If the behavior persists or worsens, consider an exam with your veterinarian.

Young puppies will whine or vocalize when cold, hungry, sick, injured or if left alone for long periods of time. You can make sure he is fed, warm and has company. To diagnose illness or injury, he would need to be physically examined by your veterinarian.

Yes. It can be traumatic for young puppies to leave their mom, litter mates, and previous home that they knew. He needs to develop a new bond with you and learn a new home/environment/routine to gain confidence. Keep working with him and with time and becoming older he will learn. Trooper is such a cutie! :) I would recommend leaving him in a crate or dog-proofed room where he can't get into anything dangerous. Give him something to keep him busy while you're gone, such as a Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter, and be aware that you may need to clean up if he has an accident while you're away - an 8-week-old puppy often can't "hold it" for very long in between potty breaks.

It is normal for a puppy as young as Bella to need to go outside once at night. I'd recommend taking her outside when she starts whining: make sure you go straight outside because you don't want her to think this is play time. If she does not urinate or defecate bring her back inside and out her directly in the crate. If she starts whining again do your best to ignore her until the morning. This is generally something she should grow out of as long as you are consistent.

Barking and whining in a young puppy is a very normal behavior. Diesel is simply begging for attention, and if you have given into it previously, he now knows just how effective his whining can be! The key is patience and consistency. You must never reward these types of unwanted or disobedient behaviors. When Diesel is whining or begging at you, you should turn away and ignore him. I know this seems cold, but I assure you it is the best way to try and break him of this behavior now. As soon as he stops whining / begging and settles down, this is when you turn to him and reward him with treats and love. This sort of consistency no your part will tell him that good behavior gets him the best results, rather than the opposite. It will take time and take patience, but I assure you this is the best approach you can take.
