My 6-week puppy has worms & diarrhea. When to re-deworm & treat?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 14 days old | 33 lbs

I bought my 6 week old puppy three day dosage of panacur c (10lb) and gave her the last does this past Sunday. I have a few questions. How long will it take to know if it worked and she's roundworm free? If she still has them how long after the last does can I give her more? I don't want to overdose her and make her sick. Lastly what is the best way to cure diarrhea at her age?

Aurora-what a lovely name! I bet she's a cute little thing :)
We typically recommend repeating deworming treatment every 3 weeks (21 days) in young pups as the deworming medication only acts on certain life-stages of the worms living inside the dog. If Aurora has a heavy worm burden inside you can expect to see some dead/almost dead worms passing in her stool-this is normal.
If Aurora continues to have diarrhea a checkup with your regular vet would be recommended. Whilst internal parasites can be a common cause of soft stool in young dogs there can be a myriad of other possible causes, including coccida, parvo virus and inappropriate diet.

Given the recurrent symptoms a fecal exam would be recommended to identify the underlying cause. There are many possible reasons for loose stools in pups including worms, giardia, food intolerance and poor digestive development. The frequency of deworming treatments depends on the product used, every 2 weeks is ok for fenbendazole products but I would be concerned about the recurrence rate at 4 months it would be unusual to have such dramatic signs. Check also that the dose rate is appropriate for his weight depending on the product you have used. A probiotic may also help restore natural gut balance and improve bowel health

It is common practice for puppies to be dewormed at each vaccination. That being said, they can actually be dewormed every 2 weeks until they are 4 months of age if need be. Speak to your vet about it and show them some photos of this stool. It may be worms you are seeing but it may also just be mucous.

I would wait until two weeks after you gave Andy the dewormer, then treat again. Six to seven times is a lot to feed a puppy his age, and he can now be fed twice a day. He's probably going to the bathroom that much because you are feeding him so often. See if reducing his feedings to twice a day plus another treatment with the dewormer helps. If they do not, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Your puppy may have to take a second round of wormer approximately 2 to three weeks after the first. Considering your puppy was severely infected with round worms (if you can see them= severe infection) these worms likely laid a lot of eggs which now have turned into larvae/worms and were not hit by the first round of the wormer. This should then hopefully alleviate the diarrhea.

How long does it take for dog deworming treatment to be complete?

Cocoa looks like she has a severe respiratory infection as well and would benefit from a prolonged course of antibiotics for her severe nasal discharge. Assuming that the dewormer given was appropriate for the types of worms/intestinal parasites that she has, she would typically need to be dewormed again in 2 weeks and have a reaper exam to confirm that she is negative for intestinal parasites in approximately 3 weeks. Pyrantel is effective against roundworms, hookworms and whipworms. For Tapeworms, she would need praziquantel or a broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal Plus. For Giardia she would need metronidazole and Panacur and for coccidia, Albon is the medication of choice. All of these parasites are zoonotic and contagious to people and other dogs as well. Diligent handwashing after handling is recommended, as is diligent environmental cleanup as she can easily become re-infected if she walks back over stool left in the backyard and licks her paws. My 6-week-old puppy has worms and is losing weight. What's wrong?

Touka will need a deworming treatment to kill the worms, and a heavy burden of them would cause her to lose weight. I recommend giving her Panacur. She will need a deworming treatment every two weeks until she is 12 weeks old. Then one every month until she is six months of age, and after that she should be dewormed once every three months.

You will need to give Peanut another dose of the deworming treatment in two weeks to kill all the worms. The diarrhea should pass in a few days. To prevent your older dog from getting worms, you need to deworm her as well.

Why is my 7-week-old puppy distant with watery diarrhea after worming?

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon possibly secondary to the parasite infection, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Chihuahua puppy has diarrhea, worms, and won't eat. What should I do?

I would get Dora a deworming treatment. It sounds like she may have roundworms, which would also cause her diarrhea. I recommend Panacur, which is an OTC deworming treatment. I'm not sure if you can get it in India, but it's worth checking. Panacur is a three day course of treatment, and Dora will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first one to kill all the worms. The first treatment kills the adults already present, while the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming treatment. After that ,she will need to be dewormed monthly until she is six months old, then every three months thereafter.
