My 6-week-old puppy: Should I feed hard kibble or soften her food?

It is important for puppies to have puppy food or a food labeled for all life stages so they can grow appropriately, so I would recommend exchanging the food. A 6 week old puppy should have all of his baby teeth coming in and should be able to eat kibble, although he may still prefer canned food.

Most dogs this age can eat hard puppy food just fine - so if he likes it and doesn't seem to have trouble chewing it, I wouldn't worry :) If he seems to have some difficulty, you can moisten it with some warm water and let it soak for a few minutes to soften before giving it to him, or feed canned food instead.

You shouldn't need to crush Squishy's food anymore if he's 8 weeks old. But, I would recommend feeding a small-breed puppy food so that the kibble size will be small enough for him to manage :) You can use any treat that you would use for an adult dog, just make the pieces very small to match his size.

No worries. Dry food can be introduced as early as 3-4 weeks, as long as it is softened.Then by 6 weeks of age your pet can be on dry kibble only (no softening needed) if desired. Your pet Soska doesn’t need to be in any softened food at her age. I hope this helps. Take care!

His teeth will be fine. Kibble isn't hard enough to fracture teeth, only antlers, bones and some toys can wear down teeth over time. However, you should try softening it a bit until he is used to the kibble and a bit stronger so that he an easily eat his food. Hello and cute picture! For an 8 week old small breed puppy, I would recommend a small breed puppy food. Royal Canin, Science Diet, Wellness Brand, and Blue Buffalo make good choices, however there are a variety of options out there. I hope you find a food she will really like. The important thing to remember is to have Cali on a puppy food until she is about 9 months to a year old. You can then transition to adult food after that.
