Considering Zentel for my cat? Is it safe, and what's the right dose?

Maloxon is to stop the vomiting, Zental is a type of dewormer which i would probably not recommend to use if you have a better alternative (drontal, Milbemax, Profender). if yu have no other alternative you can use both medications, the zentel needs to be given only for 3 days.

How much the kittens need to get of the Zentel depends on their weight. The dosing instructions should be on the bottle, and I would follow that. It is correct you need to deworming them every two weeks in the start. That is because it takes at least two dose of the medication given two weeks apart in order to kill all the worms. The first dose kills the adults present, while the second dose kills the ones that had no yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. I would give your kittens two doses two weeks apart, and then I would give it to them monthly until they are six months of age. After that, they can get it every three months. I recommend you take some of the worms for a formal indentification by your vet in order to determine the species and likely source (fleas or small mammals) so as to guide the most effective prevention. I wold recommend oral or long acting spot on flea treatment and also an insecticidal household flea spray to reduce any flea eggs or larvae. Tapeworm medications will only kill the adult worms inside the cat at anyone time and do not prevent reinfection but I wold not recommend treating any more than monthly

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Zentel is listed as a human albendazole product. If this is the medication that you gave your cat, I recommend a visit to the vet asap as cats can be very sensitive to albendazole, it is not a medication typically used in cats.

Albendazole is not commonly used in pets. For routine deworming, Pyrantel is a good option and will kill the common parasites of kittens (roundworms and hookworms). The dosages will be on the package or you can contact your veterinarian for assistance. You veterinarian also likely carries this product. I hope this helps.

I would recommend taking Tigger to make sure mebendazole is the proper medication for him. Even though this is a dewormer and typically pretty safe 500mg is a large dose for a 5kg cat. It will be to hard to break this tablet to the appropriate dose for Tigger. Also mebendazole does not kill tapeworms so Tigger might need additional medication to deworm for tapeworms. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not recommend the albendazole as it has cause a bone marrow toxicosis when used in cats. Very dangerous situation. The current thinking is to treat these cats with fenbendazole & a probiotic like Purina FortFlora or Proviable KP. Check with your vet about switching to the fenbendazole. Take care.
