Is albendazole safe for my one-month-old kitten's deworming?

Cement is too young to have that product now, and albomar won't be effective for fleas (which can transmit tapeworm!). I would recommend to apply another product like Stronghold kittens for example (it will treat both). Ask your local veterinarian for a prescription. It would be impossible to get a small enough dose measured out for a 1.5 pound kitten, therefore, it is not recommended. You can, however, use the Panacur liquid but that needs to be given once a day for 3-5 days in a row and is rather expensive. It can be purchased over the counter. Follow the dosing recommendations on the bottle. Follow dosing and frequency recommendations on the packaging but in general, the dose is 1.0mls per 10 pounds of body weight. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not recommend the albendazole as it has cause a bone marrow toxicosis when used in cats. Very dangerous situation. The current thinking is to treat these cats with fenbendazole & a probiotic like Purina FortFlora or Proviable KP. Check with your vet about switching to the fenbendazole. Take care.

The most commonly used dewormer in kittens is called fenbendazole, and is given for a few cycles based on the life cycles of most intestinal parasites. There are other topical products that also do treat some intestinal parasites, however not all of these products are safe for kittens unless they are over a certain age. Tapeworms are killed by a medication called praziquantel, which is prescription only. A dewormer containing that can only be gotten at the vet. A great deworming medication is Drontal which kills tapeworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. OTC dewormers will only kill roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Personally I always recommend a deworming medication from the vet, as they are stronger and better than anything you get OTC. Drontal is safe and healthy for kittens. Bambi should get a dewormer now, and another in two weeks. After that she will need to be dewormed monthly until she is six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. It's perfectly safe to give them a deworming medication even if they don't have worms, it prevents them from occurring. I never recommend getting OTC flea and tick medications. Many brands of them, such as Hartz, are terrible products that do not work and can have serious side effects in cats. I personally recommend getting a flea and tick medication from the vet such as Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. When you make an appointment with the vet to get her vaccines, you can also get the deworming treatment as well as the flea and tick medication. I hope this helps!

How much the kittens need to get of the Zentel depends on their weight. The dosing instructions should be on the bottle, and I would follow that. It is correct you need to deworming them every two weeks in the start. That is because it takes at least two dose of the medication given two weeks apart in order to kill all the worms. The first dose kills the adults present, while the second dose kills the ones that had no yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. I would give your kittens two doses two weeks apart, and then I would give it to them monthly until they are six months of age. After that, they can get it every three months.
